Lyra's P.O.V

I stood beside my parents on the platform Caius and Athenodora Gladstone, Mum was fussing with my hair as Dad laughed for beside her "Mum I'm fine, I'll be fine" I pushed her hands away with a huff and then Dad pulled me into a hug "you'll write me won't you Lyra?" I nodded "as soon as I find out what house I'm in" he smiled and leaned down kissing the top of my head "that's my girl"

The whistle blew and I grabbed my knapsack "see you at Christmas!" I ran off and boarded the train as the doors were shut, sighing I pushed my hair back and began to look for a place to sit when I was pushed to the floor "Move!" Looking up I got a glimpse of a black, green and silver robe.

Collecting my things I pushed them back inside when a door opened "need a hand?" A hand outstretched and I pushed it away with a frown "No" with that I got up and found a empty compartment. Sitting back I pulled my knees up and buried my head into them.

This is a great start I thought to myself, pulling out my journal I began to write my first thoughts of what happened, why do I find it so hard to make friends That's because you push everyone away Lyra shaking my head I placed my journal back and laid my head back watching the landscapes go by.

Soon enough the train stopped and I had just changed into the black robes we were given, exiting the train a large man with bushy hair and a bearded directed us towards a lake were boats floated, climbing in one, I felt it teeter as someone else got in "Hi, I'm Lainey Jackson" I looked to my right to see a blonde girl with striking silver eyes.

Smiling I stuck my hand out "Lyra Gladstone" she shook my hand and we began talking until we looked up at the castle in awe, after climbing out and walking inside, we were then directed up a large set of stairs, climbing up them, me and Lainey stuck to each other side.

An witch approached with a pointed hat on "I am Professor Mcgongall, I will be sorting you into your house this evening" with that the doors opened and we were all lead down the hall to a small wooden stool with a hat placed a top of it.

"James Potter" the hat was placed on his head and immediately shouted Gryffindor, lots of people were called and then it was my turn "Lyra Gladstone"

Whispers we're heard as I stepped up, you see the Gladstone family were notorious for being placed into Slytherin until my mum and dad, they were both in Gryffindor. Sitting down the hat was placed on my head "Another Gladstone ey, two places you could go Gryffindor or Slytherin, in either house you could be great....I think GRYFFINDOR" letting out a breath my robes changed to Black, Red and Gold.

Walking down I joined Lainey at the table and we smiled, once the ceremony was over we were allowed to eat and then we were showed our way to the Common Room by prefects.

"The password for the common room changes every week and it can be found on the notice board, this week it is Fortuna Major" with that the door swung open "the girls dormitories are off limits to boys and will turn into a slide if one tries to pass the same goes for the boys, girls are too the right and boys too the left"

Me and Lainey smiled at each other and headed up too our dorm, two other girls followed, one called Marlene McKinnon and the other called Lily Evans.

"This is Lily and I'm Marlene, nice too meet you both" we nodded "I'm Lainey and this is Lyra" Lily smiled wide at me and I sat down on the bed near the window "is it okay if I take this bed, it reminds me off home and I get awfully homesick" the girls nodded and I took out a piece of parchment and a quill and began writing to my parents.

'Dear Mum & Dad,
I was sorted into Gryffindor like you both were, I've made three friends already and had a little upset all in one day, I miss you both dearly already, don't forget to write me back

I unlocked the cage next to my bed and my black owl Hades flew on to my arm, rolling up the parchment I placed it into the little holder on his leg "take this to mum and dad Hades" the owl hooted and playfully nipped my finger, I opened the window and he flew out.

"Missing home already?" I nodded "I've never been away from my parents before" the girls nodded as I sat by the open window. Looking out I sighed, this would be a long year.

Moving I opened my trunk and took out my pyjamas, I changed into them using a simple swap spell and I sat back were I was before as the other girls climbed into their beds.

A single tear rolled down my cheek as I continued to look out into the night sky solemnly "this is going to be a long four months" I whispered to myself.
