Chapter 8 *The Party's Tomorrow!

"She loves me," I murmured.

"Yeah," Alex smiled. "And she's sleeping round tonight,"

My jaw dropped. "I love Fridays,"

"Same - the party's on Saturday,"

He paused. "Liz won't still be here. Unless she's staying over that day, making out with you-"

"Alex! Seriously. She wouldn't kiss me anyway. She only likes me as her best friend." I mumbled in disappointment.

:: Elizabeth ::

We listened through the floorboards to the boys' conversation.

"Liz won't still be here." Alex said, his voice slightly muffled from the layer of flooring between us.

"Unless she's staying over that day, making out with you-"

"Alex! Seriously. She wouldn't kiss me anyway. She only likes me as her best friend."

"Oh Maxy, if only you knew," I mumbled, my heart weeping as I felt sorry for him.

"I know," Alex said, then hesitated as if thinking. "But have you asked her of she likes you...the way you do?"

"No, Liz thinks we're best friends. Nothing else. Besides, I like it when she's happy."

I smiled against the floor.

"Why don't you tell Max?" Leah asked next to me, her ear also against the floor; as Katie continued to sit on Max's bed, thinking of some sort of plan.

"I can't!" I whispered back. "If he knows I love him, I'd kiss him for..."

I trailed off in a daydream.

:: Max ::

I could hear the girls' voice from upstairs, thanks to the thin flooring.

"Why don't you tell Max?" Leah asked.

Tell me what?

"I can't!" Liz said. "If he knows I love him, I'd kiss him for..." She trailed off.

I bit my lip.

For... For what?!

Alex frowned at me.

I rolled my eyes pointing to my ear, then at the ceiling.

'Girls?' he mouthed.

I nodded silently.

"So, anyway," Alex said, acting casual. "You never told me who you were taking to the party."

"Who do you think? Liz, duh."

"Cool. I don't know who I'm taking yet. Maybe Marissa, or Candice."

I raised an eyebrow at him.

'Jared' I mouthed at him.

'The girls don't know' he mouthed back.

I rolled my eyes.

The girls came downstairs, and we acted busy - putting the rest of the shopping away.

"Hey, girls. Anyone want anything to eat?" I asked.

"No thanks, Max. We were gunna head off," Leah said.

I nodded, turning around and leaning against the counter.

Liz got her phone out, texting something.

Katie rolled her eyes, then pulled her own phone out.

What did the text say?!

Don't leave me Ninja x

Katie grinned at me, then started texting back.

Just chill hun. Text us in a bit if wanna talk xx

I bit my lip as I read her text, and she winked reassuringly at me.

I rolled my eyes and grinned at her.

"I will never understand the female mind," Alex said, grinning.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Max raise a knowing eyebrow at his brother.

Alex glared back at him, glancing at us quickly.

"You're telling them," Max held his hands up in surrender, a grin threatening on his lips.

Those lips...

Leah rolled her eyes and poked me in the side; causing me to tear my gaze away from Max to glare at her.

I got my phone out, this time texting Leah.

Was I staring again? X

She pulled out her phone and grinned cheekily at me.

"When are you not?" She raised a knowing eyebrow at me, and my cheeked heated up a little.

"Not my fault," I reminded her.

"How?" She tilted her head, looking innocent.

I crossed my eyes, and felt Max's eyes graze over me lust fully.

:: Max ::

I felt my eyes graze over her curves lustfully. Jeez, I had it bad...

Why did she have this effect on me?

Oh yeah - because I was deeply in love with my best friend.
