No Beginning Nor End

She sits me down
The lines on her forehead
Deep and begin to furrow
Her eyelids; heavy from the lack of sleep
Lips parched and cracked

Tears start rolling down her cheek
Interrupted by the tubes running across her face
With every ounce of strength she had left
She mouths to me the words; I love you
And that was the last time I heard her voice

I love you, I love you
I must have replayed those words almost a billion times in my head
Cause that's all I could do
As I lived my life like a broken tape recorder
No beginning nor end

I lost the ability to rewind
But if I could, I would tell her I loved her too
I would tell her how kind and compassionate she was
How she always saw the good in people when I didn't
How she defeated every challenge without fear
Even if it defeated her in tears in the end
