The Girl Who Saw Through Me

Almost two years ago
I said I'd find you
I didn't think you existed
You were only but a dream
A figment of my imagination
Long past its due date

Mysterious girl, no longer a mystery
Your identity finally known to me
The moment I met you
Awaken I was from my misery

You wear braces
To a smile that is already perfect
Oh what an effect it has
A smile that takes me to places
Mending all traces of my smile
Something I haven't done in a while

You skipped the small talk
Sharing baby photographs while we walked
Had deep conversations about love
Every once in a while comparing it to Love Rosie
And how people are so rigid when it comes to who makes the first move
That they just end up on separate paths
When they do meet again, it would have been too late

I just watched you speak
Every word, music to my ears
It resonated with me
Maybe I'm crazy and it's holy week
I prayed that you felt it too
Two years, for a girl like you

A girl who writes poems like I do
Oh who am I kidding
I'm an amateur
A girl who saw through me
Saw me as I am
Mess and all
And said; Embrace the mess

You're gone now
In the arms of another
And that's okay
You gave me a gift
You made a dream come true
