I whisper to the universe

and share my secrets

I listen to the silence

the echoes that aren't

the void is consuming

the empty is swallowing

everything

is smothering

everything

quiet breaths are taken by cold

ice spreads through veins

and numbs all feeling

hearts will stop beating

and souls are released into the

void

that holds our world together.

the darkened sky

covers the universe

in a charred blanket

if I didn't know any better

I would think the sky was burning

but since I do know better

I know it's not the sky that burns

it is us.

we are just beings with no idea

how vast and empty and alone

we truly are in this plane of existence

we scream and search for meaning

and we see light that isn't really there

we try to make sense of

what we've been handed

but we can't

the pain of the truth

is too much to bear

so we lie

we scream to the universe

asking questions

that will never be answered

fear is what keeps us all together

without it there's no meaning

there's no point in being here.

we are all alone

with the weight of

the unknown on our shoulders

fearing what is out there

in the pitch night sky

what is out there

beyond this realm we live in

we can not handle

what there really is

so we put up a shield

we think we know why

but we really painted light

over the dark we know

that way

it doesn't seem so meaningless.

we think that if we hide behind

our own brains

then we'll be safe

then fear will be taken away

but really

fear is always there

but there are some people

who will see through

the make-believe light

and speak to the universe

and those are the people who

hide away in dark corners

and stay up with the moon

those are the people who hear

the cries of the universe

and make messy poetry out of them

when the world is quiet

and no one is listening

and when no one is watching.

like the universe

the ones who see through

are unknown

misunderstood

and ignored

because the others are scared

they're scared of the truth

that they can see.

like the universe

the ones who see through

become empty and alone

asking the single question

that plagues the mind of

every living being

why? why? why?

but the universe doesn't answer

because it itself

doesn't know why.
