Tyler and Josh played chess

Tyler was obviously winning

He was simply just so much smarter than Josh

And Josh had lost two times in a row

Before Josh knew it, he lost again

"Checkmate, buddy!"

Tyler exclaimed, giggling softly

Josh gave Tyler a tiny smile

He wasn't a bad loser

He wouldn't go mad over some stupid game

Tyler let out yet another haughty giggle as he layed down

On his floor

That was covered with toys

Lalaloopsies and Barbies

Woody and Buzz Lightyear

Action figures and racer cars

And a plastic army of green soldiers

"This game is foolish anyways. Just based out of luck"

"No Josh," Tyler said, and turned to look at his friend "It's all about technique"

Josh scoffed "As if"

When he got up from the floor Tyler followed him

Josh opened his door and went downstairs

Tyler followed him

He was then suddenly stopped by his mother

"Where are you going?"

"Outside, Mammy"

She nodded slowly "Then take care of yourself"

Tyler smiled and put on his shoes

Josh stood next to him waiting

"I don't have to. Josh is here to take care of me"

Tyler's mother's facial expression softened

She all of a sudden looked very concerned

Tyler pretended like nothing was wrong

And gave his Mammy another genuine smile

"See you later!"

Mammy nodded and Tyler closed the door

Josh sat on a swing

Tyler sat on the roof of the playhouse

"Where's Melanie then?"
Josh asked

Tyler knew he was jealous

He always asked where she was

As if he thought it was weird he hung out with him instead of with her

But Tyler actually enjoyed being with Josh and Melanie equally

"I don't know"

"How about Jenna? Where's she?"

"I- uh..."

Tyler doubted

"I'm not friends with her anymore"

He licked his lips slowly and looked down

"What?" Josh gasped "You guys were close!"

"I know" Tyler admitted "But we were a mismatch. We're from different worlds"

Josh laughed "Everyone are from a different world when it comes to you"

"Melanie isn't"

"She isn't?"

"She's the only thing that feels real to me, like she actually exists in reality"

"In your reality"

"She's the only reality I need. It doesn't actually matter how disconnected I feel from everything else. As long as she is in my reality, I need nothing else"

"What about me, then?" Josh almost sounded hurt. "Don't I exist in your reality?"

"Don't be stupid. You are my entire reality. You don't just exist in it, you are made of it"

"Too bad your reality is completely in your own head, then"

"Stop. It's not funny."

Tyler jumped down from the playhouse

He started walking away

Towards the cornfield

Josh had a tendency to mess up his brain at times
