Weeks went by and nothing strange happened

Tyler and Melanie spent just as much time with each other

As before

Though after some time,

Melanie heard the name 'Jenna' appear more often in Tyler's sentences

Jenna was that girl Tyler had stopped and talked to

A while ago

The girl with long blonde hair

Often in two tails

One tail with blue dip-dye

The other with pink

Melanie just mumbled answers when Tyler was talking about her

She couldn't say she was jealous

Jealousy just reminded her of that one day

That she wanted to forget

So she let Tyler talk

"She's always speaking in this certain way, you know. It makes you want to hear it."

Melanie reacted with a scoff

"Are you telling me I don't speak in a way that makes you hear me?"

"What?"

Melanie was taken aback

But Tyler started laughing

"Just kidding, Melanie! Of course I hear you!"

Melanie crossed her arms with an irritated pout

"But you aren't listening"

Tyler jumped down from the swing

He ran towards her, where she sat on the sand below

He kneeled down beside her

He grabbed her arm, pulled her in for a kiss

Melanie pulled away

Tyler looked at her in dismay

"But you barely talk, Melanie. If you talked more, I'd listen more"

Melanie sighed and looked down

"I have to go home now"

Tyler looked at her for a while

"Okay," he then whispered. "Take care"

Melanie got up from the sand pit and nodded

"You too"

"I love you, Mel"

Melanie nodded again

"You too"

Tyler kissed Melanie once more and she walked home

She felt his gaze on her the entire time

Something felt strange at home

When Melanie stepped in, she found it hard to swallow

The house was so dark and silent

She stepped in and almost shivered

When she got to her room, she understood what was wrong

Her window was open

And it was freezingly cold

Winter wonderland

Everything was ice

Even if it was barely autumn yet

And the grass outside was still green

And the sun was still shining

Melanie walked to the window to close it

She reached out to grab the frame

Afraid of falling down

When she finally got a grip of the window,

She took her time before she closed it

It was far, far down to the ground

And it was hawthorn bushes below

How did Tyler dare to climb

Up buildings, trees and playgrounds?

Melanie didn't even dare to look down

It was frightening

Yet thrilling and exciting

But it made Melanie feel dizzy

As if she would actually fall

She pictured her own body

Laying in the bushes

Her pale skin covered in blood

Thorns in her knotty hair

Melanie couldn't stand the thought of it

She quickly closed the window

And ran out of her room

Once again it was quiet and strangely lonely

Melanie looked around

And saw that the door to Edwin's room

Was open

And out of curiosity,

She stepped in
