Melanie was so happy

Tyler was in love with her

He had said it many times

"I love you," he had said, that day when they were walking in the park

Melanie was now dancing around alone in her room

Her lace socks were pastel pink

Her pastel blue sailor dress flowered when she spun around

"You love I" she sang "You and I"

Friday came

Tyler had called on the telephone

"Come out! The sun is shining bright!"

Melanie had smiled

"Sweet!"

Tyler chuckled in phone

"Meet me in the treehouse! I'll bring candy and juice!"

Melanie made her way downstairs

Nobody seemed to be inside

But when Melanie stepped onto the porch outside,

She saw her brother Edwin

Sitting on a hammock

He was surronded by smoke

And the smoke made Melanie's eyes sting

And the smell made Melanie's nose itch

He held something between his fingers

It lit up slightly when he inhaled it

It wasn't a cigarette

Cigarettes were more slender

Melanie knew that

Her mother used to smoke cigarettes

But her brother was smoking something else

She didn't understand what

"Where are you going?"

"I'm going to Tyler"

Edwin smirked "Admit it, you're in love with that boy"

Melanie rolled her eyes

"It's obvious," Edwin continued "You're obsessed with him as if he's a celebrity"

"So what if I am!"

"Woah," Edwin said. "Take a chill pill. I have some if you want"

"No thank you!" Melanie snapped. "I don't want anything from you!"

She stepped down the stairs to the ground with determined steps

After her, Edwin called her name

She turned around and saw him leaning against the railing of the porch

"Dad is cheating"

Melanie could do nothing else than stare at him

As if he was speaking another language

"How do you know?"

Edwin shrugged "It's obvious"

"How!?"

He took another blow of the weird cigarette "Why do you think Mom is so angry nowadays? She knows, even if Dad denies it"

Melanie felt how the tears started to form

She swallowed and looked up at her brother

"Are they going to divorce?"

Edwin looked down, hit some small rocks with his shoe

"I dunno, I really don't"

Melanie nodded

She now wanted to get out of there

Meet Tyler who would comfort her

Tell her it will be alright

Tell her that Melanie's dad loved her

And would never do anything wrong

"What are you smoking?"

The question was out of curiosity

"Nothing you will ever get in your hands"

"It seems dangerous. If you don't tell me what it is, I'll tell Mom and Dad"

He scoffed, "As if you will. If you tell them, I'll make them forbid you to meet Tyler ever again"

Melanie licked her lips and Edwin finally laughed

"It's drugs, lil sis. Cannabis, weed, marijuana. Drugs. Nothing for babies like you. Not sweet candy."

Melanie pursed her lips, and then walked away

Now she really wanted to meet Tyler

Her brother was acting strange

"Don't you dare tell anyone, Melanie! Oh boy, will you regret it!"
