[maisy]

I had dozed off while I was just doing some reading for my short calculus, I know this because there was a small damp spot of my duvet from drool-gross. My phone started to ring and I thought maybe it was my mom or maybe even laurel.

It was Colin.

I pressed answer, soon his voice filled my ears, "Hey Maisy I don't know if you had any plans tonight, but there were a few friends around the area I wanted you to meet if you were interested."

"You're in New York?"

"Yes, uh business for my internship. But would you be interested in going to dinner with us?"

I looked down at my appearance, my legs were clad in black sweatpants and I had some random t shirt on that way too many holes.

"Yeah, sure Colin, How dressed up do I need to get."

"Uh, well they're pretty important, and we'll be dining out at an exclusive restaurant, and the reservations for eight, so I'd say maybe a nice dress."

"An exclusive restaurant, How did you know I'd say yes." I questioned.

"I uh. Well I was kind of hoping- hoping you would." He said fumbling with his words in a way I found pretty cute.

"Relax I'm kidding."

He let out a sigh, laughing along with me, "okay so I'll pick you up at your apartment in two hours, and don't bring money I've got you covered."

"Colin-"

"Maisy I've got it.

"Alright if you say so... I'll see ya in two then, bye." I said sweetly before hanging up.

Ughh, I crawled out of bed running to the shower. I stepped it turning the knob so it was fairly hot. Ended up washing my hair and shaving my legs and armpits, they were starting to get crazy- and I swear I didn't participate in no shave November.

I put my hair up while I started my makeup, did a bit of foundation and concealer under my eyes to cover the circles. I'm possible I have gotten a maximum of 18 hours of sleep this entire week. In general I haven't been sleeping well the past few months.

I blasted music on my phone to wake me up. I shimmied and got into some crazy positions to get my sheer black stockings in my leg and found a classy simple black dress to throw on. Did a basic cat eye, and a dark lip and called it a night. My hair I let down into its natural waves out form.

Something was wrong, my fingers traveled to my bare neck. I walked into the bathroom grabbing the gold necklace that I had left on the sink counter.

I put it on tucking it under my dress. I grabbed my plum Peacoat, and opened the door to Colin, "hey sorry forgot my phone."

"It's all good." He smiled taking my arm walking is out of the dorm apartment.

It took all of ten minutes to get to the  restaurant; which was classy and modern, I was so mesmerized. We sat down and were later joined by three men older than colin and myself.

I shook their hands firmly, smiled when I needed to, laughed when seemed appropriate, and the conversation touched on a lot of passionate topics for me.

Tonight was going great, they seemed to enjoy he debates and arguments I had on certain issues. I got a little embarrassed when Colin started hyping up all my achievements and honors.

"Oh stop it, you've done wonderful things in your college experience so far." I stated bringing my glass of strawberry lemonade to my mouth.

I had been offered wine but respectively refused, I wasn't much of a drinker. Never really was.

As our table was getting cleared, I saw Colin and one of the men talking. The rest of the men were readying their checks and parting ways when Colin walked over to me. The man who had introduced himself as John Mullinger earlier said I was a bright young lady, with a great future ahead.

I couldn't place it but he seemed familiar, something about him. Then it was just the two of us, Colin and I. We had stayed to have dessert and I got the most creamiest cheese cake I ever had.

I was in love, I swear.

Colin smiled at me with this cunning little smirk, and I got so panicked- and I don't know why. It was like he knew something that I didn't and I didn't want to know what.

He clasped his hands, running his fingers along the table, " So uh, you remember when you mentioned how you wanted to get more heavily into writing. Well I found a publishing company that is looking for a few interns, I'm sure you could transition under the right path. This could be big, and you were talking to the chief article in staff and it looked like he really like what you had to say."

I let out a gasp, "are you serious thank you so much Colin! How did you, this is huge, I knew that guy sounded familiar.. Just couldn't place it. I can't even thank you enough."

By this time we had started our walk towards his car, the snow was falling evenly, not hard enough to be a burden; but not quite soft enough to be ignored.

"My mother has some connections." He shrugged like it was no big deal.

My arms enclosed around his waist as I buried my head into his sweater.

"this means so much Colin." I exclaiming, and I don't why but I ended up giving him a kiss on the lips.

It lingered a bit longer than I had intended, and my knees weakened as I pulled back slowly. This kiss felt different than our last, I felt a singe on my lips. Colin looked at me with an odd expression, he must have felt it too.

"Kiss me again." He pleaded,  gently curling his fingers around my jacket.

His freckled cheeks colored softly as he smiled,  I reached up again, bringing my lips toward his into a stronger embrace. But I stopped right before they touched, I felt bad, like I shouldn't.

Before I could second guess myself Colin closed the distance between us.

Colin's smile lit up, and I couldn't help but smile a bit too, his hands wrapped around me tickling me as  laughs filled the streets.

He pulled back looking at me with interest, as he turned directing his gaze out to the snow covered streets, "What happened?"

I lowered my head in realization, shaking my head, as I brushed some snow off my jacket watching it fall to the ground, my voice barely above a whisper "I let him go."
