Chapter 23---Day 9

Lizzie was putting her books in her locker, while Matt rushed to the apartment to grab some blood. She turned around to see Zack standing there with his arms crossing his chest. “I see the leech is in school now,” he said angrily as he stared her down.

“Zack, can’t you be nice. He did save you from me,” she sighed as she walked toward the door.

“I don’t care. He is a killer,” Zack snapped as she pushed through the door. “I don’t want you to get hurt.”

“Matt won’t hurt me. I’m the princess of killers and if we are killers, so are you. You kill my kind,” she hissed as she crawled under a tree. “Look Zack. The only one in danger is you and the only reason I would be a danger to you is you; so just go Zack.”

“Lizzie, I love you. Don’t ask me to leave you with him,” Zack told as someone pushed through the branches. “You! This is all your fault!”

“Zack, you’re the reason she got sick and has to be careful now,” Matt told as he passed her a bottle. “Now I believe she asked you to leave.”

“I will not!” Zack snapped as he started to slip his knife from its sheath.

“Look, we can’t do this here,” hissed Matt as he stood toe-to-toe with Zack, but he kept his calm and steady gaze.

“Okay then. Meet me at the basketball court at midnight and be prepared to lose,” Zack huffed before he stalked off.

“Sorry Matt,” Lizzie mumbled between sips. “Maybe I should go live with the queen a while.”

“No! I won’t let you! You wanted to be as normal as possible; so we will be normal,” he told as he knelt before her. “Lizzie, don’t listen to him. He is mad because he wants to be with you but can’t, while I can.” He slid forward and touched her face. “And I’m so glad I have you.” He kissed her for several minutes before the bell rang. “Well time flies. How about we ditch the rest of the day?”

“Matt, it is your first day,” she giggled as he slipped his sweatshirt hood over his head. “We should stay, but it won’t be hard to convince me to go.” She leaned in and kissed him again. “Let’s go.”
