Chapter no.12

Corinne's POV :-

"What?.........now? " I asked dumbfounded.
"Yes now....look it's really urgent so we have to go." Laverna said.

I looked at the annoying clock on my bedside table that read 2:30am.

Laverna called me at this time of the night and was telling me she and Aiden had to go back home because of some emergency.

Merleah sat next to me with a frown on her face.
I sighed.

"We'll be there in an hour okay?......love you too.....bye."

"Leah......come on get -" she interrupted me.
"I'm not going anywhere."

I frowned at her.

"Corinne.....there's something wrong." she said in a worried voice.
I could feel that too. But what could possibly go wrong?

We reached the hotel where Laverna and Aiden were staying and saw them waiting in the lobby with their luggage.

The entire place was brightly lit with Christmas lights. We walked up to them with demanding expressions on our faces.
"Mom what's wrong? " Leah asked.

"Nothing sweetie......we -" Laverna began but Aiden cut her off.
"There's a very important business deal waiting for us sweethearts.......so......"

"Are you sure you guys aren't hiding something?" I asked narrowing my eyes suspiciously.

Aiden smiled rather sheepishly before shaking his head.

"But it's only 26th today.....and what about New Year.....?" Merleah groaned.
"Sorry sweetie......but we've got to go. " Laverna gave me and Merleah an apologetic smile.

Knowing that there was no way we could make them stay, we packed their luggage in Merleah's car and headed for the airport.

Me and Merleah exchanged secret glances. Something was definitely fishy.

At the airport before parting, Laverna gave us a hug each.

We watched them walk across the gates to their flight when Laverna turned to look me in the eyes and gave me a worried look.
This was my cue. Aiden was hiding something from us. From me in particular.

I'd better find out.

We rushed back to the car.

"Leah......I'll have to find out what Aiden was hiding." I told her.
"Yeah........let's go home for now. " she said putting the car in ignition.

"Merleah wake up this instant or I'm gonna -" I shouted while Leah launched herself out of the bed.
"Hey! What the heck is wrong with you?........" She asked in an annoyed tone.

Something wrong? With me? Well it definitely was. Since that hot CEO came into my already messed up life.

"Leah we've got to be at work.......you're the head interior designer for our new office building remember?" I was literally whining like a kid.
Why? Why did it have to be me?

"Okay okay......stop." Leah groaned making her way sluggishly to the bathroom. But as she was too slow for my satisfaction so I pushed her into the bathroom while she cursed under her breath.

We quickly gulped our breakfast down and rushed out of the penthouse.
"So?.......where to?" Leah asked as I fastened my seatbelt and turned the car out of the parking lot.
"To the new office building.......the construction is all finished and it just needs furnishings." I explained.

I drove past the busy city streets and slightly towards the outskirts of Paris city before a large twenty- four storey heaven-kissing skyscraper came into view.

written in Italics across it's front. The previous building was not bad but this? I was at loss of words.

I looked to my left to see Merleah with her mouth hanging open.
"Come on......let's see what's it like inside." Merleah said bouncing up and down in her seat.
I rolled my eyes at how childish she could be sometimes.

But I couldn't help but admit that Cameron knew very well how to put things together and create a masterpiece.

We walked into the building and looked around. The colors of the walls were all so greatly coordinated. Lighter and darker shades of the colors put together added to the elegance.

Merleah looked around some more while I made my way upto the top floor in the elevator and stepped out.

This floor waa assigned for Cameron's office and mine.

My office was so airy and spacious just how I like it and the window gave an amazing view of the city below. I found myself imagining how I would decorate it.

Next I went into Cameron's office and it was beyond my wildest dreams.
The wall that centered this cabin was all glass and it gave a breathtaking view of the Eiffel Tower and all of the glorious city.

A smile curved my lips and I could almost see Cameron walking around the entire place.
Oh God! I could stand here just like this and go on with my fantasies.

We went to several places rushing to get all work done before our deadline that was just one week.
I left at three in the afternoon to get started with the preparations for the upcoming fashion show.

By seven in the evening I was so exhausted that I couldn't move a muscle. I grabbed my cellphone off the desk and typed away a message to Leah asking if she wanted me to pick her up.

Two minutes later, she replied saying Dylan would drop her off.
I smiled reading the text.

I was happy she was going on with her life to her will. She may even find true love.
But my life was the complete opposite. Whoever I'd ever loved had betrayed me. My loved ones were pulled apart from me somehow.

So I had to admit, I was afraid to fall in love again. I just couldn't let myself be betrayed and hurt again.

I drove back to my penthouse and instantly changed into comfy clothes and tucked myself up in my bed thinking.

I didn't know why but thinking about all my past led me to Cameron somehow. I didn't expect any kind of relationship between us (or did I?) but I couldn't help but wonder if he would somehow turn out to be different.

My feelings for him were so jumbled up right now that I couldn't bring myself to a decision.
I didn't have answers to any of my questions. I didn't even know if I really felt something for him or why would I have feelings for him to begin with? Why?

Before I knew it, I found myself drifting slowly into an uneasy slumber.

I could see nothing but myself running through dark alleys and a pair of enchanting grey eyes.
