        I COULD Not feel

I COULD Not feel. I was numb and lost as the hazerdous winds rushed under my cheer skirt, lifting it higher than it already was. I heard cat-calls from across the field in the bleachers as we practiced for the next football game. Random males always came to watch us practice, which made me fairly uncomfortable to say the least. But coach said it was okay since they would pay later to watch the games.

"We are the Champions and we win win win. We are the warriors we fight fight fight! Two four six eight who's the best team in this state, Warriers!" We shouted at the top of our lungs as we completed the first part of the cheer routine. I was tired already, my breathing had grown heavy and my throat was aching for water.

It went on like that for about twenty minutes until my phone began ringing repeatedly. I rushed away from the group and checked. It was my mom. All of her recent calls were merely a delivery of bad news. A small piece of me hoped she was calling to tell me that Dad was home again, but it quickly simmered.

"Hey guys I'll be right back." I said to my fellow cheerleads as I quickly rushed into the locker room and changed out of the cheer uniform.

"Hi mom, is everything okay?" I asked, my breath shaky as unsteady fingers tied my shoes.

"Sweetie, do you know how to cook, because I set a paper towel on fire and I don't know what to do." She complained, she didn't even sound shocked. I rolled my eyes, hoping it had been something from, about, or pertaining to dad.

"MOM! Pour some water on it or look for a fire extinguisher. Look, I'll get home as fast as I can. Cheer practice is almost over anyway." I said, quickly rushing out of the locker rooms. People were giving me strange looks, I was usually the last one to leave practice.

"Taylor!" Jake, my boyfriend, called as he rushed up to me in his football uniform, "you're not staying?" He asked, taking off his helmet. He wrapped a sweaty arm around me and I cringed.

"No, sorry Jake, I really have to go home, my mom needs help." I said.

"Well I can walk you. . . to your driver?" He said confidently, I smiled at him as he reached for my hand. "So what happened at the dance, I mean why'd you leave so soon?" He asked, I looked at him for a second, wondering if I should tell him. Instead I settled for "family problems."

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I assume that's why your dad probably made you drive to school today," He smiled as we approached my car, "see you at the game tomorrow night Taylor." He winked, kissing me softly and jogging away. I smiled at him as he turned around to wave again and tripped a bit, I stifled a laugh as he regained composure quite quickly. Jake was kind of cute when he wanted to be.

"You should've seen his face when you got called to dance with David at the dance. Priceless." Matt voice came out of nowhere as I jumped in surprise, stumbling over myself and falling on my butt.
