I thought that I'd been hurt before
But no one's ever left me quite this sore
Your words cut deeper than a knife
Now I need someone to breathe me back to life

(Y/N) was caught up in a relationship with Jackson Whittemore. He wasn't a model boyfriend, nor was he a model anything (unless douche counts.) He was horrid to her at times, and she didn't understand why she was still with him. But she loved, she loved him so much. She loved the way he smirked, she loved how his eyes shine in the sunlight, and how he always ran to her after he won a game, and how the touch of his skin against hers that gave her a mesmerizing sensation. But he didn't feel the same way about her..he never loved her as she did him, and she knew that. She played a dangerous game. The more he had her wrapped around his finger, the less he was around hers. As she fell more and more in love with him, he grew further and further apart. However he was the type of guy to stay with someone, no matter how he truly felt. He needed a girlfriend. He needed someone to secure the "popular, player, jock" image he had going for him, so instead of breaking up with (Y/N), he decided to do something else. He thought he was being careful enough, choosing places that were secluded from the public, making sure these "other women" wouldn't say a word to (Y/N), but she wasn't clueless. She knew there was something going on with him. His constant disappearances from her side struck as suspicious, so she followed him. And when she found him, lips hooked on a pair that weren't hers, his hands on a waist that wasn't hers, in between a never visited bookshelf in the library, she wasn't shocked. Of course it still hurt, seeing him with another, but she knew it was coming, she always had. And when his eyes finally found hers, staring at him and his short-time lover, he didn't even try to explain. He blamed it on her, everything on her, and those words were forever in her heart, those wounds would be ones to become scars.

Got a feeling that I'm going under
But I know that I'll make it out alive
If I quit calling you my lover
Move on

It had been a couple of days since their official breakup, and she was still in agony. But she put that hurt away, and she stored it inside her. She'd began to drift towards her old crowd of friends, whom she had stopped hanging out with after she became Jackson's new girlfriend. They were however forgiving and took her back immediately. They all understood as they'd gone through the same situation, being in love with the wrong person. It took a few weeks, but (Y/N) finally got over Jackson. She talked it out..with herself..and she realized that sometimes, things like this happened, sometimes life takes you down a wrong path. And she told herself that she was over him. But Scott knew differently. He and her were as close as can be when they first met, and despite being in a relationship with Jackson who refused to let her be associated with Scott and his group, she kept in touch with Scott. And Scott knew every detail of her relationship, and he knew that he still a flash of pain in her eyes whenever someone mentioned him, or whenever she caught a glimpse of him in the halls, because Scott went through the same, painful breakup, a year ago.

You watch me bleed until I can't breathe
Shaking, falling onto my knees
And now that I'm without your kisses
I'll be needing stitches
Tripping over myself
Aching, begging you to come help

Laughter rang out throughout the room as (Y/N) died at one of Scott's jokes. It wasn't even that funny, but the way that he said it made it hilarious. They were hanging out in his room, catching up on life, even though they'd spent the last two months reconstructing their previous bond. But it was different this time. Last time..they were close..but as friends. They both felt a platonic love for each other. This time, there was something else there. A foreign feeling that intruded their space whenever they were near one another. But they both ignored it, believing it to be nothing. After their laughter died out, she grew silent. Leaning over on Scott's shoulder, she let out a sigh. She began to slowly let tears fall from her eyes, and Scott was utterly confused. She had seemed so happy less than a second ago. "I'm- I'm sorry..I didn't mean to- I don't know what I-"
She smiled, tears still falling down her face, "It's not you Scott. I've just, I've been holding this sadness in for so long, but I can't anymore. It's like a weight on my chest. Whenever I'm with you, or anyone else, and I'm having the best time I could have, I remember that sinking feeling in my heart, and it ruins everything. I guess- I guess I just need someone to let these emotions out on, so that I won't ever have to worry about that burden again."
Scott nodded, "Go ahead."
And so she did. She explained every detail of their breakup and the many days before it. She explained how she knew it was coming and how she knew that it wasn't true love, and that he never loved her. She explained every bit of emotion she felt with him, and without him. And through every word of it, she cried. And when she was done crying, Scott removed his arms from around her, and gently wiped her last tear away with his thumb. He didn't speak back, or say anything else, as he knew she didn't need any empty words. So when her cheeks were dry, he pulled her to him once again, and held her in arms. In that moment, (Y/N) felt every wound in her heart, being sewn shut, and slowly starting to heal.
