Chapter 18

Katie's POV

Dick has been really jumpy lately. When ever he's around me his eyes would just dart around the area like they were scanning everything around us.

"Dick are you ok?" I asked.

Dick suddenly stared at me with his blue eyes. He smiled, but it looked like a forced smile.

"Yeah I'm fine. Are you ok?" He said.

"Yeah I'm good. It's just that you look like your going crazy. Your eyes are constantly moving in every direction."

As I was talking Dick diverted his eyes to students walking through the door.

"Dick" I clicked my fingers in front of him. "Richard!"

His eyes looked back at me.

"What?" He said a little annoyed.

"You're eyes did that thing again. Are you sure your ok?"

"Katie I'm fine. You should be the one that's not ok." He said.

"What" I said with a confused look. "Why?"

Dicks eyes widened like he said something he wasn't supposed to.

"Hmm. Um. No reason. It's just that you know. Dangerous world." He stumbled.

I went to say something but the teacher walked in and the class started.
About halfway through the class I turned around to see Dick scanning the room again.
What's the heck is wrong with him. And why does he think I shouldn't be ok. What's he hiding.

I sat down at our usual lunch table with Artemis.

"Hey Arte." I said while shoving food in my mouth.

Artemis looked up from her lunch.

"Yeah." She said.

"Have you noticed That Dicks been acting really weird lately."

"Isn't he always weird?" She smiled.

"Yeah. He is." I laughed but then my face went back to serious. "But lately he's acting strange."

"I wouldn't know. I haven't seen him all day." She said.

"He's been doing it for the past three days."

Dick walked into the cafeteria.

"Look here he comes." I said nodding in his direction. "Watch. His eyes will act like their surveying the room. It's freaky."

Artemis looked over at him. And sure enough his eyes were going on everyone and everything he saw.
Artemis looked back to me.

"What's with the eyes?" She said.

I shrugged. Dick sat down at the table.

"Ladies" was all he said and he went back to doing the thing.

Someone walked into the cafeteria and his eyes shot straight over to the person.
I looked at Artemis with a can you explain this face.
She just shrugged.

Barbara walked in and sat down.

"Hey guys" she greeted.

Dick looked at her.

"Hi" and then went back to scanning.

Barbara got a confused look on her face and looked at Artemis and me.

"So what's with dicky over here?" She said.

"We've been trying to figure it out as well." I said.
