"So how soon do you think that you will be out of here?" I asked Macey. She looked at her calendar.
"I think that it will take a little less than a month. I know that it means that I will still be coming up here for frequent checkups, but I really don't want to stay here." She explained.
"Cara, why are the cuts so big?" Emer asked me. I looked at her and then at my arms.
"Because I ran into some really mean people. They thought that it was fun to hurt me." I told her. She came up to me and lifted my skirt, so that she could see my legs. She placed it back down.
"I think that they look cool. You now look like you could beat someone up! Dad has a lot of scars on his face!" She said. We just laughed at her observation.
We stayed there and talked for a while longer. Macey seemed really excited to be living with us. I couldn't wait either. I knew that I had about a day left. Siva and Nareesha ended up leaving with Jay when he started to feel bad. They took him home and the rest of us stayed there.
We had to leave, because Macey had to have an exam taken. They had us sit in the waiting room. Emer went to go play with her friends. Nathan was getting really stressed about Macey being in the other room.
"Nathan, calm down. She is just getting a check up." I told him. He looked at me and stopped pacing.
"You are right." He said as he sat down.
"But what if something is wrong?" He said as he stood right back up. I sighed. I knew that it would be useless to try to get him to sit down.
"So we are going to have to do some painting, before Macey gets to the house. Are you okay with that?" Tom asked me.
"Our section? Or the entire thing?" I asked him.
"The whole thing." He confirmed. I looked at Max and he just shrugged.
"You know that I don't really get upstairs, very well." I told Tom. He smiled and nodded his head.
"I think that we could find something for you to do." He replied with. I smiled and Max grabbed my hand. I looked and I saw that people with cameras came out of the elevator. I pulled my sleeves down and Max looked to make sure that my skirt was okay.
They came in and started to take photos of us. I saw Nathan start to get more stressed because of them. Max, Tom, and Kelsey did their best to ignore them. Nathan was just pacing and continuously repeating, "no comment". I grabbed one crutch and placed under my right arm, so that it could act as my leg. I then grabbed Nathan's hand and I took him out of the lobby area.
I knew that they might have gotten a picture of my leg, since I had to walk and pick up the broken leg. Except, that wasn't important. I took Nathan to the bathrooms. I then put my leg down and I leaned against the wall. We didn't walk. We actually ran.
"Cara, why did you do that?" He asked me.
"I did it, because you were already stressed and they were making it worse." I panted out. He stepped towards me and grabbed my left arm. I looked at him.
"Let's go back." He told me. I looked at him and rolled my eyes.
"I ran over here with one crutch. You can go back, if you want, but I am taking a bit of a rest." I told him. Nathan smiled and shook his head.
"I could carry you." He suggested.
"No, too many things could go wrong with that." I told him.
"Like what?" He challenged me.
"I could be too heavy for you, my skirt might show off my legs, you might drop me, or you might hand me off to one of them." I said with a big smile. He laughed and agreed.
