I helped Sam get ready by lighting all of the candles while she filled the tub with hot water. I didn't plan on joining her, but I wanted to be helpful in whatever way I could.

"Are you going to join the others?" She asked as she swirled her hand around in the water.

"Yeah... I uh, I want to, um..." I was at a loss for words, which was odd since I was usually very expressive with Sam.

"You want to see Josh." She smiled her all-knowing smile and flicked some water at me. "It's cute -- you get all shy when you talk about him."

"I-I'm leaving!" I scurried to the bathroom door, glancing briefly over my shoulder as I exited.

"Have fun~!"

"Why is she always right about me..?" I mumbled to myself as I made my way through the halls, then down the stairs. Josh had finally gotten a fire going, though it was dull.

"Guys?" There was no reply, but I could make out voices coming from the next room. Assuming that it was them, I investigated.

"Watch out!!" Just as I entered the room, Ashley jumped up out of her seat, sending her chair toppling backwards. Something hit the floor on the far side of the room, and that something seemed to have everyone's attention. On the table was the ouija board, but it was missing a piece.

"Guys, what just happened?" I approached the three of them, each of them looking surprised and scared.

"Holy shit... Chris?" Ashley was looking to Chris for answers, but he was speechless.

"You know what? No. This is bullshit. This isn't real--" Josh stood from his chair, shaking his head. His gaze met mine for a split moment; I saw fear and sadness swirling within his wide eyes.

"Josh! I don't know what's going on..." Ashley began pleading with him as he backed away from us all.

"Listen." He took a deep breath and raised his hands a little. "I don't know... I don't know if you think messing with me is somehow going to help me deal with my grief or whatever, but this is NOT cool." He gestured to emphasize his distress. I looked between Josh, Ashley, and Chris as I rounded the table, soon standing at Josh's side.

"Guys, what did you do?" Confusion was evident on my features as I looked at Ashley and Chris, wanting one of them to explain the situation.

"Josh, no!" Ashley's gaze clashed with mine, a glint of desperation in her eyes. "He wanted to use the spirit board, Courtney!"

"Hey, calm down, it's not Ash's fault." Chris finally spoke up, and of course, he was defending Ashley.

"I don't need this right now, okay?! You guys are full of it!" Josh glared at Ashley and Chris as he made his way to the door, anger taking over as he stomped down the stairs.

"Sh-" Ashley shook her head and sat down in her chair. "Should we go after him?"

"Ah, man... He'll be fine, let's just give him some time." Chris sighed.

"I can't believe you guys would do that to him..." I shook my head and ran a hand through my hair in frustration. "You... you know how much his sisters meant to him -- you know how much that would freak him out! How could you?" I was disappointed in them, honestly. They were his friends -- why would they do that? Did they enjoy seeing Josh suffer?

"Do you really think we did that?" Chris asked me, bewildered by my accusation. "Do you really think that we could even pull it off, if we did fake it?"

"Court, you have to believe us! We would never do something like that to Josh!" Ashley pleaded with me, but I still felt hesitant.

They were capible of lying, weren't they?

"...Who was it?" My tone was serious, along with my expression. If there was a chance that they weren't lying, then I wanted to know who they had been talking to.

"Hannah. It was Hannah."

When Ashley said her name, something inside of me didn't feel right. It was as if Ashley was lying -- or rather, she didn't realize she was lying.

"...She mentioned the library, we should go check it out." Chris stood from his seat, his gaze shifting from Ashley to me. "Are you joining us?"

My gaze fell to the hardwood floor, and I focused on a single crack in the glossy board. I was worried about Josh, but maybe Chris was right -- maybe Josh just needed some space, some time to think.

"Yeah, I guess."
