Here's Chapter Two! It's longer than I was planning, but that's okay, right? I think it came out pretty well, or at least I hope so.
Enjoy!
"Oh look, Josh is calling for us!" I laughed nervously and hurried out of the room, trying my best to avoid Sam's embarrassing accusations.
Of course, she's right...
"No hot water is kinda a major oversight, doncha think, Court?" Sam's voice came from behind me, and I could hear her footsteps as she followed me downstairs.
"Yeah."
Sam complained to Josh about the lack of hot water, and he explained that we needed to turn on the boiler.
"You two up for a ride-along?" Josh smirked and led us downstairs. It was quiet during our little walk, but Josh suddenly spoke up as he grabbed a flashlight out of a drawer. He mentioned how he purposely sent Chris and Ashley out together, wanting Chris to finally make a move -- though he doubted that he would. We all laughed about it, then followed him as he went over to a door on the left and unlocked it.
"You know... Sam, Court..."
"Yeah?
"Yes, Josh?"
We walked through the door and down the hall, with Josh glancing back at us every now and then.
"I just wanted to say..."
"What?"
"It really means a lot to me that everyone came back this year and, you know... you two came." He looked at us, a glint of desperation in his eyes. I knew exactly what he meant, and I was sure that Sam understood as well. Sam and I were close friends with Hannah and Beth, so now that they were de-- ...missing, it was kind of hard for us to return.
"I'll be honest... It's definately weird being back here, but I think it'll help us all put everything behind us." Sam spoke earnestly, making me smile a little.
"Um..." Josh glanced down at the floor awkwardly. "I just want us to have a good time, y'know?"
~~~~~
"Watch your step." Josh warned, taking the lead down the stairs. The last step was broken, crumbled cement pieces surrounding it.
"I think we can handle a little old set of stairs." Sam protested jokingly.
"Uh-huh." Josh chuckled at us. "I'm more worried about little-miss-clumsy." He turned his head to meet my gaze, making my cheeks flush.
"Sh-shut up." I grumbled, carefully passing the broken step. "See? I'm fine-"
Something suddenly fell over in the distance, startling me and making me squeal. Josh and Sam cracked up laughing, and I hid my face with my hands. "I-It startled me!"
"Heh, right." Josh grinned and continued deeper into the basement, with Sam and I in tow. We turned a few corners, until Josh found what he was looking for. It was a tall metal cabinent, which he opened with ease.
"Sorry to drag you down into the bowels." He apologized as he crouched down in front of the cabinent. Inside were an assortment of wires, metal fuse boxes, valves, and switches.
"Ugh, just get me some hot water and I'll be super-fine." Sam glanced around, seemingly unsettled. I defiately understood -- the cellar was dimly-lit and damp, making it rather eerie.
"I mean... I wouldn't want you two coming down here on your own, you know?" He glanced at us as we approached him, taking a look at what he was working with.
