A Death in Pictures

Development, they called it, as

They pushed the switch, and

Electricity surged through

Wire veins that linked those

Who were the architects of

Tomorrow to the destruction

Of yesterday, silver halide

No match for megapixels.

A titan of film collapsed in a

Spectacle of dust and rubble,

Captured for the world in

Highest resolution digital,

And the billion memories

That adorn albums and walls

Became, in that instance of

Light and heat and atoms,

Image ghosts to haunt our

Afternoons with friends and

Family, a faintly eerie reminder

Of days gone by that, like

The spirits that stole souls

Before Eastman Kodak,

Will fade away, ‎leaving just

The negatives of progress.
