Beomgyu stood outside the gate, clutching a bag of cupcakes from the bakery Yeonjun said his mom liked.
Damn, if Yeonjun's house is big,
HIS PARENTS' HOUSE IS BIGGER.
He was wearing Yeonjun's oversized hoodie—because he refused to "dress fancy" and also because he secretly found comfort in the way it smelled like him. Gross. But good.
Yeonjun opened the door before he could even knock. "OH MY GOD—you wore it." He practically swooned, placing both hands dramatically on his chest.
"Shut up," Beomgyu muttered, shoving the cupcakes into Yeonjun's arms. "Take these and pretend I'm normal."
"You're not normal," Yeonjun whispered as he leaned closer, "you're perfect."
Before Beomgyu could punch him (lovingly), Yeonjun's mom appeared from the hallway. "Beomgyu! You're adorable, come in, come in!"
Beomgyu blinked. "Oh. Thank you, ma'am—"
"Oh, don't 'ma'am' me," she laughed. "I already told Yeonjun he's lucky you even like him."
"WHAT."
Beomgyu shrugged "I mean she's kinda right."
Yeonjun's dad was quiet. Intimidating. Sipping soup like he was silently calculating taxes and future wedding expenses.
Yeonjun kept nervously nudging Beomgyu under the table while mouthing say something nice, and Beomgyu almost kicked him.
"So, Beomgyu," his dad finally said. "What are your intentions with my son?"
Beomgyu froze. The room went silent.
Yeonjun's eyes widened. Abort mission, abort mission—
"...To keep bullying him until he begs me to date him."
Yeonjun's mom choked on her wine.
Yeonjun gasped. "EXCUSE ME?!"
"I'm joking!" Beomgyu blurted. "I—I just... I like him, okay? He's dumb and loud and full of himself but also weirdly gentle and... warm."
Yeonjun stopped mid-gasp.
Beomgyu blinked. "And he makes me feel safe. Which sucks. Because I didn't want to like him. But now I do. So... yeah. I guess that's my intention. To keep liking him."
A pause.
Yeonjun's dad hummed. "...You're alright."
Beomgyu blinked. "Wait, what?"
"You passed," his mom smiled. "Now come see the shrine."
"The—what?"
"NO NO NO—MOM NO—"
A massive photo album was slapped onto Beomgyu's lap. The front cover sparkled with sequins and said "YEONJUN THROUGH THE YEARS <3" in rhinestones.
"Oh no," Yeonjun whispered, burying his face in his hands.
Beomgyu opened the first page. Baby Yeonjun in a bunny costume.
Page two. Yeonjun with braces and a perm.
Page three. Teenage Yeonjun crying over his favorite K-pop idol's enlistment.
"OH MY GOD," Beomgyu howled, nearly falling off the couch. "This is GOLD."
"I'm breaking up with you," Yeonjun muttered.
"We're not even dating yet."
"EXACTLY."
Yeonjun's mom handed Beomgyu a copy. "You can keep this. Just in case you need blackmail material."
"I love you," Beomgyu said instantly.
Yeonjun looked at his mom, betrayed. "Why would you do this to me?"
She smiled sweetly. "Because he's cute, and you deserve to suffer a little."
As Beomgyu slipped on his shoes, Yeonjun trailed behind him, red-faced and flustered.
"I can't believe you saw the perm photo. That's like—level ten trauma."
Beomgyu snorted. "It's my lock screen now."
Yeonjun groaned.
But then—Beomgyu turned around. His voice soft. "Hey."
Yeonjun looked up.
"Thanks for bringing me here."
Yeonjun's heart somersaulted. "Of course."
A beat.
"...Still not your boyfriend, though," Beomgyu added, smirking as he stepped out the door.
Yeonjun clutched his chest like he'd been shot. "You're evil."
But he was smiling. Because that was the first time Beomgyu didn't run away from the idea of being his.
