Beomgyu sat stiffly on the park bench, arms crossed like he was guarding national secrets. Beside him, Yeonjun was trying to look casual, legs crossed, sunglasses still on even though they were under a tree.

"So," Beomgyu said, side-eyeing him. "You dragged me here for...?"

Yeonjun turned dramatically, lifting his sunglasses just enough to reveal his puppy eyes. "To spend quality time with the guy I love platonically until he maybe forgives me romantically."

Beomgyu blinked. "What."

"Nothing."

Beomgyu rolled his eyes. "You're unbelievable."

"I'm in love," Yeonjun replied like it was a medical condition.

Just then, a group of ducks waddled by. Yeonjun gasped and jumped up like he'd seen royalty.

"Beomgyu. Look. DUCKS."

Beomgyu barely glanced. "Cool. Birds."

"They're not just birds—they're the symbol of our love."

"Oh my god."

Yeonjun ran off to follow them, flailing slightly. "Wait! Take this rice cracker as my offering!"

Beomgyu stared at him as he kneeled dramatically in front of a duck, whispering, "She's ignoring me. She's literally you in bird form."

A little girl nearby pointed. "Mommy, is that man okay?"

"No, sweetie. He's in love."

Eventually, Yeonjun plopped back down on the bench beside Beomgyu, grass in his hair and an empty rice cracker wrapper in hand.

"I think I just got rejected by a duck."

"Good. Maybe you'll stop chasing things that don't want you."

Yeonjun looked at him. "Do you really not want me anymore?"

Beomgyu was quiet.

The silence stretched until even the ducks felt awkward and wandered away.

Then, very softly, Beomgyu mumbled, "I didn't say that."

Yeonjun's whole body went still. "You didn't say that...?"

"I'm just... not ready to forgive you. Yet." He glanced at Yeonjun. "But that doesn't mean I hate you."

Yeonjun smiled so wide it could've split his face. "So there's hope."

"Don't push it."

"I'm pushing it."

Beomgyu turned away to hide the smile threatening to break through. Yeonjun noticed. He saw it all. And in that moment, even with his duck rejection and public embarrassment, he knew one thing:

He was totally, stupidly, hopelessly still in the game.
