The sun had dipped below the skyline, painting the sky with soft indigos and bruised pinks. Beomgyu walked a little slower now, not because he was tired—but because Yeonjun was beside him, and somehow this felt like a scene from a movie.
They didn't talk much. Just the occasional nudge. The sound of their footsteps. The faint buzzing of cicadas. And Yeonjun humming softly, just loud enough to fill the space between them.
"You always do that," Beomgyu said after a while.
Yeonjun blinked. "Do what?"
"That stupid humming thing when the sky gets pretty. Like you're the background music."
Yeonjun smiled. "What can I say? I like to romanticize my life."
Beomgyu rolled his eyes, but he didn't stop walking beside him.
They turned a corner and passed a small park with a fountain in the middle. The kind of old, slightly moldy fountain that kids throw coins into. Without thinking, Yeonjun grabbed a coin from his pocket.
"Let's make a wish."
Beomgyu snorted. "You really think this is a k-drama, huh?"
"I mean... yeah?" Yeonjun handed him a coin. "Come on. One wish. Just for fun."
Beomgyu hesitated—but then took the coin anyway.
They both stood at the fountain, the moonlight catching on the surface of the water. No one else was around. Just them, their coins, and the quiet buzz in the air.
Yeonjun whispered his wish to himself and tossed his in.
Beomgyu looked at the coin in his hand for a second longer before tossing it up too.
They stood there for a beat.
Then Beomgyu muttered, almost too soft to hear:
"...I wished for more nights like this."
Yeonjun turned to him so fast it was like he forgot how to use his neck. "What?"
"Nothing." Beomgyu stepped away fast. "Don't make it weird."
Yeonjun didn't move. Just watched him with wide, stunned eyes and a smile slowly blooming on his lips like a lovesick idiot.
He clutched his chest dramatically. "I'm gonna explode."
"You already exploded, dumbass," Beomgyu mumbled without turning back—but Yeonjun caught it:
The soft smile. The warmth in his voice. The way he wasn't walking that fast anymore.
Maybe Beomgyu wasn't saying yes yet.
But he wasn't saying no either.
And that was more than enough for now.
