"Sonic, don't you usually walk home? I can stop by the chili dog stand for you if you want," he seemed to be feeling much better now.

"I felt bad for suggesting you join the class. And the teacher also kinda banned you from ever joining. So, sorry," I handed him the bento and he quickly took it, "If it's not enough I can-"

"Of course, it's more than enough. You didn't mean for that to happen. I misjudged what I thought I could handle. I could have said no if I didn't want to try. Let me drive you home after a snack."

"I gotta go pick up Tails first. He'll freak out if I show up in someone's car."

"Would it be okay if I dropped you off a block away where he can't see you?" He opened the car door for me.

"I guess so. I'm already running late," I got in and Infinite did just that.

He ate up all the rice balls and enjoyed every flavor I had made. Then he dropped me off a block from Tails' school as I gave him directions on where to go.

"Sonic," Infinite spoke up as I started getting out of the car, "I'm looking forward to your cooking lessons. Let me know when to come over, okay? I've got work today so I won't be able to text back right away."

"Yeah, I just need to have a little chat with Tails first about it. Okay?" I shut the door and waved as he drove off.

"Sonic!" Tails ran over to me as I reached his school gate, "Lunch was awesome today."

"I'm glad you liked it. How was school today?" I enjoyed our usual chatter as Tails told me about his school's prep for their Culture Festival. Tails' group was putting on a display of all their experiments like a huge science fair but without the competition.

"Sonic," Tails spoke up as we got home, "can I ask you something?"

"Sure buddy, what's up?" I set out a small snack for him.

"Would you tell me if you're dating someone?" I practically choked on the apple I had bitten when he asked, "Sonic?"

"I'm o-kay...." I chugged a glass of water and it cleared things out for me, "Ahem... What makes you ask that?"

"I saw a message on your phone a few nights ago," Tails grabbed my hand, "Are you dating someone?"

"Um..." I knew I couldn't keep things a secret around him, "It's sort of yes and no, we're still figuring it out."

"It's not Shadow is it?" Tails asked.

"No, absolutely not. I think I'd rather clean his toilet again rather than even think about dating him. He's probably be all old-fashioned Omegas belong in the kitchen type of bullshit," I felt chills as the idea of dating Shadow came to mind.

"Are they nice?"

"Yeah, his name is Infinite and he's kinda weird but he's trying. And... he's one of the sweetest guys I've ever met. He's so respectful too, even if he makes a mistake he apologizes almost right away. He's got a lot of anxiety with other people though so he's pretty shy in public. But, he's never once made me feel afraid and is surprisingly open around me. We've only been on one date so I can't say if we're dating, but, I wouldn't mind going on another with him. He's the one who won the fox at the arcade."

"The one you made a second tail for our of a pair of socks? He got you that?" Tails had been carrying the fox from room to room with him ever since I sewed in a second tail. It was on our dining table today.

"Yeah," I glanced at it, "And, there's one other thing... I can smell his scent. Which means, we're mates. But, I could smell Shadow's scent, which means he's also my mate but I'd rather not tell him that."

"That jerk was your mate? No wonder it took you forever to stop talking to him. But this Infinite guy is your mate too?"

"Yeah, and he's been making me pretty happy. I thought about introducing him to Ray, Blaze, and Silver. Then we could tell Knuckles and Amy," I sat down and glanced at my phone. I had gotten a text from Infinite.

"But I get to meet him 1st," Tails said, "I want to be sure he's not gonna hurt you. Then you can date him."

"Okay," I ruffled his fur, "You can be the judge. Infinite wants to learn how to cook so he can help out our class with the food stall. If I brought him over after school to learn, would you be okay with that?"

"Only if I get first dibs on leftovers," Tails smiled.

"It's a deal."

Tails went to do his homework for the night and I responded to Infinite. Inviting him over after class on Friday.

Then I got a message from a certain jerky Hedgehog.

------

Jackass: Sonic, I need to talk to you.

Me: If it's about cooking or cleaning, no. I'm done being your errand boy.

 Do it yourself.

Jackass: It's not about that.

Who was that alpha you were with today?

Why was he getting close to you?

Me: It's none of your business.

I'm not going to tolerate you anymore Shadow. Goodbye.

------

I muted any messages I got from Shadow. I wasn't interested in his attempts to get me back into doing his grunt work. I won't let him trick me into being his playwife again. We're done, for good.

PoV: Shadow

Sonic had stopped reading my messages... He didn't even answer my question, he just ended the conversation completely.

"Did you really think he would just forgive everything?" that bat's words rang in my mind again.

"Has he been angry this entire time?" I couldn't recall any angry expression from Sonic aside from when he cleaned my house and was angry at me for getting lazy.

"Damn it!" I slammed my fist onto my counter.

I didn't want to say it, but I knew what I had done. I had lost any chance I had with my mate because I decided to meddle in his life for my own benefit. I didn't have to steal his suppressants and flaunt to him that I knew his secret. I didn't have to threaten to expose his secret just to get free meals... I was the one who had pushed him away this entire time by getting involved when I shouldn't have. But why did I even do all that?

Sonic... no apology will ever be enough for you to forgive me...
