It Started on Lazy Day

Part 20

Pov: Sonic

... ... ... .. .. .

There was a loud sound... a thud as I felt my body fall... it stopped so quickly against something warm... and soft... Bitter... dark... I couldn't quite describe the scent... 

"Get... off... him..." I heard a deep growl in the distance...

for a second, I saw a light... for a second... I saw red and black... ... ...

"Hmm..." I felt weak as I woke up. It's bright... The fluorescent lights and grey curtain around my bed... Crap... I'm in the Nurse's Office...

"Ah, Sonic, you're awake," I heard a familiar voice. Tails... he was here?!

"Tails? What are you doing here? Is Tikal alright?" I sat up and started to feel dizzy.

"Careful, your body is resisting heat right now. You need to rest for it to stop," He made me lean back against another pillow, "Here," he handed me a glass of water.

"I'm sorry... I haven't gotten the hang of this stuff yet..." I took a sip of water.

"Don't apologize for this," Tails snapped at me. He climbed onto the bed and hugged me, "There's nothing wrong, so don't say sorry. Just feel better again, okay?"

  I couldn't help but smile, holding him made my body feel cool and steady, "Okay, I can do that."

"Sonic, you're okay," Tikkal came in as Nurse Vanilla opened the curtain.

"Yeah, just need to rest for a bit," I rubbed Tails' back. His gently wagging tails, created a nice little breeze near them.

"You wouldn't have been able to fight off the heat if the young man hadn't carried you here," Nurse Vanilla handed me an ice pack and towel.

"It was Shadow..." Tails' twin tails suddenly dropped, "Shadow carried you here."

"Shadow?"

"I brought him to you from the hall. I think that made him upset," Tikal looked away, "I've never confronted an alpha before... it was honestly scary..."

"I've already told the Principal that if he doesn't get those students to behave I'd lecture the entire school myself. I don't care if that means we institute a disciplinary club for the students. I've had three fainted omegas this week already. Tails, once Sonic is well enough to walk you two can go home."

"Okay, thank you Dr. Vanilla," Tails hugged me a bit tighter.

  These meds are leaving me vulnerable to some stupid hormones. I've been nothing but a burden since. I can't risk the stronger meds, it'll worry Tails...

"Don't worry Tails, I'll be just fine real soon," I stroked his fur for a while as we waited for the dizziness to wear off.

  After water and a snack, I was ready to head home with Tails. Thankfully it was Friday, I'd have the weekend to recover. Still, how quickly I had become powerless... it irritated me.

"Hey," I heard a voice as we walked past the school gate, "Are you feeling better now?" It was Shadow. He was leaning against the wall as we walked out.

"Oh... Yeah, I am," I looked down as Tails grabbed my hand tight. He had a subtle anger hidden in his expression, "I heard you brought me to the nurse... Thank you for that..."

"I expect a lunch box in return," he turned away from me.

"WHAT!? After what you di-m!" I covered Tails' mouth as he started shouting.

"Tails, calm down," I grabbed him.

"It doesn't have to be on Monday-"

...grr... I knew that sound...

"Are you sure you can wait until Monday?" Is he that hungry? Has he been eating at all?

"No!" Tails escaped my grip, "You fainted, you can't cook for a jerk!"

"... I can drive you home. You're hardly walking. You lied to Nurse Vanilla to go home sooner," Shadow glared at me.

How did he know?!

"You like pizza?" I asked, agreeing to the ride.

"...I'll allow it so you don't pass out walking home," Tails growled, "But I'm keeping my eye on you. Don't even think about making Sonic cook or clean your dirty house."

"What's with the child?" He pointed to Tails.

"He's my brother," I grabbed Tails' hand.

"Let's go," Shadow led us to his car which was nearby. I gave him my address and he drove us to pick up two pizzas and some sides first before heading home.

  I won't up inviting him to our place... I let Shadow in, he didn't come in at first but he did come inside after grabbing my school bag for me. Tails grabbed his small cheese pizza while Shadow and I split the large everything pizza. The amount Shadow ate surprised me a bit.

"You really enjoy pizza," I laughed as he got cheese from a slice and stuck the fur on his cheek.

"... It's one of my favorites," he wiped his mouth with a napkin and finished his slice.

"Pizza huh?" I watched as he covered his next slice in chili flakes, "You like spicy food too. I prefer chili dogs."

"What the hell is a chili dog?"

"You don't know what a chili dog is!?" Tails snapped, "It's only the best food. Sonic I finished eating. Can I have dessert now?"

"Sure. But only two scoops of the mint Ice cream," I called to him as he ran to the freezer.

"I've finished as well," Shadow had finished his last slice and closed the now empty boxes.

"Are you trying to ask for ice cream?"  I wasn't sure why he'd tell me he'd finished his meal so quickly after Tails did. He gave me the most subtle nod while avoiding eye contact, "One or two scoops?"

"What?! Why does the jerk get my ice cream!?" Tails held the bin in his hands, "He can't have any!"

"Is Rocky Road okay?" I signed.

"I'd prefer it over toothpaste," Shadow remarked.

"Mint ice cream is not toothpaste! It's a refreshing, creamy dessert!"

"It's toothpaste."

"You're tastebuds are broken!" They were quarreling.

I was just trying to be nice, Shadow was pretty decently behaved... He seems different, less of an ass.

"My tastebuds are of a superior quality," Shadow replied. Still the rich brat though...

Whatever. This was just a thank you for helping me to the nurse. And so he doesn't starve to death. I don't think I've gotten to know him...

  After dessert, Shadow was quick to go home. He even thanked me for the meal... I guess I don't know Shadow...

  I don't know him at all...

PoV: Shadow

"Thank you for allowing me to join you," I left after dessert. Why did he invite me inside? I was sure he'd just take his share of the food and send me off...

  I couldn't remember the last time I had shared a meal with someone. Even when I lived with my father, Doom, he never showed up to the dinner table. Not since Maria...

  He invited me to eat with him despite my behavior and his brother's protest...

  I could faintly smell it on my clothing, below the smell of pizza was a sweet peachy scent... Peaches...

  I haven't had any peaches today... This must be Sonic's scent...

  Did he always smell like peaches?
