⚠️AlertVola colomba is a piece of music composed by Bixio Cherubini and Carlo Concina, winner of the 1952 Sanremo Festival in the interpretation of Nilla Pizzi. Vola colomba had been composed when Trieste, following the Treaty of Paris of 1947, had become an independent city-state under the protection of the United Nations with the name of Free Territory of Trieste; the situation would be unblocked by the London Memorandum in October 1954. In that context, on the question of the return of Trieste to Italy, the song was a great success. In Bixio's lyrics, there are numerous references to the capital of Venezia Giulia, for example: 'kneeling in San Giusto', 'we were leaving the shipyard' (Trieste being the site of shipyards) and 'my vecio' to indicate the father in the Triestine dialect.

The lyrics of the song:

God in Heaven, if I were a dove

(I would fly from my love)

God in heaven, if I were a dove

I would fly to where my love is

Who kneels to Saint Just

Pray with a sad soul

Let my love come back, but come back soon

Fly, white dove, fly

Tell her (tell her)

That I will return (that I will return)

Tell her that she will no longer be alone

And that never more (and that never more)

I will leave her

We were happy, united, and they divided us (and they divided us)

We smiled at the sun, the sky, the sea (the sky, the sea)

We left the yard

Happy with our work

And the campanon, din don, would chant to us

Fly, white dove, fly

You tell him

That I will return

Every night I fall asleep sad

And in my dreams I cry and invoke you

Even my old man dreams of you

He thinks of the pains he has suffered

He weeps and hides his face between the blankets

Fly, white dove, fly

You tell him

That I will return

You tell her

That I will return, that I will return

Official video:

Although the video is in black and white with a resolution of 1950s yarns, I have to admit that it still leaves a nice impression and to think that Rai did not exist in those years, so it is already a big deal that you can find the original videos of these music films from before Rai. In case you hadn't noticed, I already love watching these music videos. And to see how much in 74 years the Sanremo festival has grown.

My vote:

The rating I would give this song is 10/10. Great singer, I'm still crying😭😭😭😭 because of the beauty of this song. it carries a beautiful meaning that after 73 years of its existence in my opinion is still relevant.
