Blimey!
Atlas sucked in a deep breath wondering what in the world had just happened.

Makenna had disappeared quicker than he could've said 'hey'. He stood there for longer than was intended feeling slightly unsteady. He finally returned to the table only for Will to look up at him with a worried look.

"Dude, what took you so long?"

Atlas sat down feeling unlike himself,
"Ran into someone."

"Oh." Will said and frowned at the Atlas, "Are you alright?"

Atlas looked at Will and nodded,
"Yea. All good."

But he didn't feel 'all good'. He was feeling very disturbed and he didn't like how what just happened was distracting him more than it had the right to.

Atlas sucked in a deep breath and glanced at the open book on the table. It took a lot more than it normally did to shift his focus back to studying. But as soon as he did, he felt himself feeling less disturbed.

Her eyes.
The look in her eyes flashed into his mind but he quickly pushed it away. The look in her eyes told him that she had been messing with him. She had done it on purpose just to get into his head. That's what it felt like she was always trying to do. Intentionally mess with him.

**

His eyes.
Makenna wondered if the look in his eyes meant he had seen her smile slip. She had felt it slip but hoped it hadn't. She had felt the panic slowly rise as she walked away from him in the library.

What the fuck was that?
She berated herself as she walked the length of her dorm room, back and forth.

She hadn't meant to. It just happened. It had felt like one of those moments when someone was calling out 'hey', 'you'. You start to feel like they're calling out to you and just when you turn to look, you see the person they're calling make their way towards them. Then you hate yourself or feel embarrassed for answering the call in the first place.

It had felt like that calling. She had to answer. She had to look and she had. Knowing it was probably not her. Knowing it was probably something she shouldn't do. She looked. She fucking looked!

Makenna fell into her bed, sitting on the edge with her hands behind her on the bed.
"Well, fuck."

Hee chose that exact moment to walk into the room which made Makenna shut everything down.

"Hey." Hee laughed as she stumbled towards her bed, "What's up?"

"Not much. Just got back from the library."

"Oh." Hee said, sounding bored, "I should probably hit the books too."

Makenna said nothing as Hee got into her bed, beneath the blanket.

"You make the rest of us feel pretty stupid, you know." Hee said, "You living your perfect life, nothing to worry about."

Makenna remained quiet because Hee was clearly not in her right mind.

Hee snorted, her eyes fluttering shut,
"My boyfriend doesn't even care where I am when I'm not with him." She dragged out the sentence.

Makenna knew that Hee would probably not remember any of this when she woke up. That's why she spoke her mind.
"Maybe it's time to stop worrying about your boyfriend and more about yourself." Makenna said, "You're smart, Hee. You need to remember that."

"I am." Hee said with a smile that slowly fell as her eyes stayed shut.

Makenna took a slow but deep breath and slowly let go. She clenched her jaw and glanced out the window. She was still unable to let it go. The more she thought about it, the more she hated herself. So, she brushed it off knowing there was nothing she could do about it now.

She grabbed her phone from her desk and checked her assessment schedule. One particular one stuck out to her. It had stuck out to all since the schedule was released.

Why?

Well, she had her textbook at home and Vanessa's words had been replaying in her head. She had been toying with an idea but it wasn't definite. It was just something she had been thinking about but not something that she was likely to do. But sitting right there, it felt like something she was going to do.

Makenna wondered why she'd been out of sorts for a while. Well, technically since that conversation with Vanessa. Then Atlas joined that train. Now, this.

Makenna checked the time. She could make it there and back. It was today or never.

Let's get this over with.
Makenna thought as she grabbed her back, phone, and keys. She headed out of her room and her dorm.

She thought about getting the car and heading there but Killian probably had to get to work. The car had been with Big Henry for a couple of days which had been inconvenient for Killian to go to work. Makenna didn't want to put him out again especially since she would be with the car all day the next day. So, she got a taxi instead.

Makenna sat at the back of the taxi knowing she would be there in just a few minutes. It always left her feeling on edge which is why she avoided it. But there she was, on her way home.

But there she was, on her way home

Happy July!

Can you guys believe that we're already halfway through 2023? That's crazy! And also, we're celebrating one year of Broken. 🎉🎊

Today, last year, the Prologue and First Chapter of Broken went up. I was nervous and excited, but one year of going through this journey with you guys has put my mind at ease and has allowed me to continue to open up when I write.

Without you guys, Broken is just...another story on the platform. It is because of you that I have experienced this journey all over again from your perspective. I am truly grateful for every single one of you who keeps coming back to this story. Some of you I've been fortunate enough to get to know through your comments, others are silent readers like me.

Every single time I put out a story, I'm welcomed by kind, honest, and amazing readers. Broken is not an exception. So, thank you so much for sticking around for however long you've been with us for this journey; a year, a few months, or even a couple of weeks. I look forward to the day we can all sit tight and read the final chapter.

I wish you all an amazing and blessed month.

Love,
Jane.
