(I'm No Longer A Kid)

Start from the beginning

"ALRIGHT CLASS OF 2025 I GOT SOMETHING REALLY GOOD COMING UP FOR Y'ALL!"
"The DJ's literally been playing questionable ass music since we got here, what the hell could he have in store."
"IF YOU GUYS ARE READY TO GET LIT SAY DAMN!" We all looked around and laughed for a moment.
"DAMN!"
"IF YOU GUYS ARE READY TO GET LIT SAY DAMNNN!"
"DAMNNNNN!" Then all of a sudden I Just Wanna Rock STARTED PLAYING. It was like the best transition in history.
"Nah, that was epic!"
"THIS AINT WHAT YOU WANT, THIS AINT WHAT YOU WANT-" People were getting sturdy and shaking their hips like there was no tomorrow. I'm sorry, but I had to judge. Harvey was dancing and it was not good. Besides that, me and the girls were having a blast. The DJ even managed to do some more good mixes. What was missing though was Josh. I'll admit, me just pushing him away was kind of mean even if he was acting strange. I wonder where he is. I went over to the boys and he wasn't there.
"Have you guys seen Josh? I haven't seen him since we got here."
"He told us he was going to the bathroom," Brian said. I sighed.
"Why the hell would he be in the bathroom for almost an hour?" I'm starting to get so annoyed.
"Maybe he's sick or something?" Claire said, trying to make me feel better about the whole thing.
"He has been acting strange since we met at your house. Come on, let's just take another lap." My eyes scoured all over the room. Today was supposed to be our day, why is he acting like this??? Then I spotted him, in the corner talking to some girl. He was smiling. She was laughing, twirling her greasy hair around her bony fingers. At one point, I saw him stroking her arm, something he only ever did with me. Seeing that just made so many things rush through my brain.

He was laughing.

He's barely given me attention tonight, but he finds it so easy to talk to some random girl in our grade.

Or maybe she isn't random. Maybe they've been talking and I didn't even know it.

I can't.

I can't take it anymore.

I mean, I know that I'm not the easiest person to deal with-

I shut everyone out.

I have a lot of trauma.

I'm hot and cold sometimes.

But I've been getting better. I've been communicating, and he's been giving me nothing and it hurts.

Maybe I deserve this for being the problem all throughout our relationship.

I just wish he could've told me something was wrong.

"Allie! Allie, wait!" Joy said. I ran into the bathroom and locked myself in the handicap stall before sitting on the floor and balling my eyes out. This is just so humiliating.

"Why does it always have to be me? I can never get a moment of peace in life I swear to god."

Mama: Hey, my love! How's prom? Send pics! I love you so much and I'm so proud of you.

"I can't do this anymore. I literally can't." I cried.
"Allie, please let us in." Leila said.
"No, I need a moment. Please just go away." I murmured.
"Honestly, Allie, I've seen the way he's been treating you lately and you don't deserve it. You've literally grown so much these last couple of months and you don't deserve him dragging you down like this." Joy said.
"Gabe and Brian and Robby are talking to him right now."
"What? Why?"
"Because, he needs to-"
"I don't need everyone in my business." I opened the door and went over to the mirror.
"Look, honestly... fuck him. This is your night so here's what we're gonna do." Claire said.
"What?" I asked while wiping the corners of my eyes.
"You are going to enjoy the fuck outta prom and then we're going to go to the after party, without him and have the best time ever."
"But-"
"NO BUTS!"

The Dance Floor (8:30 PM) (Josh's Perspective)
"I didn't do anything wrong. I don't understand why all of you guys are attacking me for just talking to someone."
"It isn't just about talking to someone. It's about flirting with another girl when you're with one." Joy said.
"I wasn't flirting with her."
"Then why were you touching her."
"Yeah, you can't get yourself outta this one bro." Robby said.
"You've been cold towards Allie for weeks now but you find it so easy to chat it up with another girl. Like, I don't get it."
"Yeah, because you don't. Do you even understand how fucking hard it is to be with Allie sometimes."
"But she's been working on herself and she's been fine these last couple of months until you ruined everything."
"Maybe everything was already ruined. Have you considered that? Key words: last couple of months. What about the last 2 years?!?" I stormed out of the venue.
"You're such a fucking dickhead Josh!" Joy yelled.

Kimmy's House (10:15 PM) (Southampton) (Allie's Perspective)
Prom's over. It was good, I guess. Till everything came crashing down. But, I guess thats what senior prom is for, right?
"Allie, I got you something!" Kimmy said with this huge smile on her face. Kimmy heard what happened and let us get ready at her place for the party. Kimmy and I are friends, but she isn't like my bestie or anything.
"What could you possibly have to make this terrible night better?"
"This fit..."
