"Man... If I can't be in the Spelldrive tournament, then what's even the point anymore?" Grim groaned, annoyed with everything

"Kitty- they're just missing out, you would have been a great edition" Y/n smiled, patting the flaming cat raccoons head

"What's wrong, Grimmy? Something got ya down?" A ghost interrupted grim before he could thank the female

"He's sulking because he can't play in the Spelldrive tournament." A ghost teased

" If you wanna play Spelldrive that badly, why, we can play with ya! I was the team captain ninety years ago, y'know. The girls in the stands couldn't get enough of me!" The other ghost practically beamed with pride, flashing the duo a smirk.

"Yeah, but wouldn't we need seven people?" Grim titled his head, moving slightly become the crouching Y/n who blinked owlishly.

"It's not a real match, so who cares? Let's just play!" The ghost cheerfully answered

And so the games begun, with Y/n sitting by a tree and watching with sparkling eyes, having never seen anything like that before.

"Good day. Playing some Spelldrive?"
Ahh... but all good things came to an end and so did this with the headmasters intervention.

"Aaand here comes the Fun Police. There goes my good mood, right down the drain." Grim sulked, throwing Crowley a salty glare

" I'm pleased to see you're all getting along. Quite pleased indeed." The headmaster hummed

"Yeah, they just keep comin' back anyway. Might as well get along, I guess. Did you want something, or..." grim tried to shoo away Crowley who tried not to look slightly offended

" I have a request to make of you both. Why don't we take this inside?"

Y/n sighed and nodded with a sweet smile while grim dragged his stubby legs back

"Seriously? MORE requests? I ain't a part of your janitorial staff anymore, y'know!" The flaming cat yelled out and Y/n winced, though she did have to agree with her companion.

"Oh? You DO recall that I never promised to cover the living expenses you've been racking up, yes?
Hard work can be a beautiful thing, Grim. I'm sure you agree, y/n."

He turned his gaze to Y/n who nodded obliviously remembering all the lessons mother Gothel had taught her on hard work and such.

"Alright!" She chirped

"YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO AGREE Y/n!!!" Grim screeched

"Ahem* I'll get straight to the point.
There has been a rash of students being hurt in suspicious incidents on campus lately.
I'm here to ask you to investigate the matter."

Crowley smiled at Y/n as he continued

"Suspicious incidents...?" Grim rose a brow

"Yes. Students falling down stairs, getting burns from boiling water, and so forth.
The specifics of the incidents differ, but the nurse's office has had a clear spike in patients over the last few days.
With yesterday's incident on the stairs, we now have ten wounded students.
We're just fortunate that none of the injuries have been life-threatening...yet."

"Ya sure it ain't just kids bein' clumsy?" Grim scoffed, turning his head away

"I'm sure many of our students are too distracted by the upcoming tournament to focus properly.
But this is far more accidents than we've had in the past years.
Furthermore, all of the wounded students were considered contenders to make their dorms' teams."

"Oooh, NOW this is gettin' interesting." The cat cackled evily

"How terrible" Y/n frowned, eyes filled with sadness and caution.

"Are you sure it wasn't a cannibal!?" She quickly added on while Crowley blanched.

There were many things in this world that one could be scared of and Crowley was proud to say he didn't succumb to common fears yet this - thing, put with a frying pan... 'hhhh' he shuddered

"A-An excellent deduction, y/n. However, we have no evidence of foul play or cannibalism.
All of the accidents happened in public spaces, and all of the witnesses said the same thing:
"It looked like he was just being careless."" He stuttered

"Sounds like they were just bein' careless, then. Case closed! Glad we could sort that out. Bye!" Grim tried to push the headmaster out

"Not the most thorough of investigations, Grim."

"But this has got nothin' to do with me! I can't even participate in your dumb tournament!
So what do I care what happens? Ptooey!" Y/n patted his head as he muttered sourly

"'m sorry to hear that—especially after I'd prepared such a magnificent reward for you..." Crowley pursed his lips, eyes twinkling

"Ha! I ain't fallin' for that line again! I wouldn't do it even for a hundred cans of tuna!" Grim declared, posing like a hero

"But what if I allowed you to participate in the Spelldrive tournament?" Crowley drew on, extending the sentence and tempting the cat

"PARDONNE-MOI?!"

"Should you solve the case, I'll generously permit your dorm to enter the Spelldrive tournament.
What do you say to that? Surely you're dazzled by my altruism?" Crowley smirked as Y/n gasped happily

"Myah... Myahaha!"

"As a participant, the whole world will lay eyes upon your majesty. Just imagine the cheers echoing from the sold-out stadium seats!
"This year's most promising rookie, the mighty Grim, has taken the field! Hurrah!" And so on."

Y/n giggled and nodded along to the headmaster

"Oh, man. It's like I can already taste it..." grim salivated

"Go grim!" Y/n whisper cheered

"Ah, but of course, you have refused my offer. How unfortunate. Let's forget this ever happened." He feigned sadness

" No, wait! WAIT! I'm in! I'll do it!" Grim yelled out in desperation

"What's that? You'll do it, you say?" Got him, Crowley seemed to smile wickedly

"If you'll let me into the tournament, you bet! Right, Y/n?" Grim questioned

"Of course! But what about the players..?" Y/n blinked with a wide smile

"As school headmage, I will simply perform a magical miracle to fill out your team somehow." The head mage mumbled the last part to it

"We can work out the details later! C'mon, y/n, we got a crime to solve!" Grim pulled her out of the building

"I am counting on you both." Crowley called after the two

Hey guys- I am going to put this book on hiatus for a while as I have no motivation to keep writing it though perhaps one day I'll rewrite it better or continue this book.

So if you see it with a completed tag, it just means I won't be updating it for a while!

Thank you for reading this book since I started it last year on the 07/2022!

Love and appreciate you all!
