My brain began to buzz from the overwhelming lack of oxygen and my legs faltered in their stance, causing my body to weaken significantly and sway slightly. It didn't exactly help that my body was already overrun by weakness from our long journey to this godforsaken city, or that my stomach rang out painfully in need of sustenance and not just water. My ears rang a cacophony of indescribable tunes, nothing like the symphony of the forest but everything like the wailing alarm of a car mixed with the high-pitched sounds of an animal-repellent device. But it wasn't just that, it was as though everything rang clearly yet didn't at the same time, like I was simultaneously under and above water. This is what it felt like to struggle to describe a sound, it was everything and nothing, it was clear and unclear. Just like my pounding head right now.
I could tell the soldier was close to his own death, but I needed him to die here alone. I pulled the claws out of his side and rammed them back in deeply, his thick wet crimson paint splattered along the floor of the pristine white laboratory and on my metal limb.
His own legs began to give out as he kneeled and found his grip on my body weaken, I took this as an opportunity to dive away from his dying state and gasped as oxygen began to flood my body like the sea floods land in a tsunami. It was as though relief breathed into me and gave me my vision back, but I couldn't say the same for my mind as it remained hazed and forced my legs to buckle beneath me too.
I kneeled, just as the Fatuus was and planted my hands down on the ground.
It was only then did I realise that there were no other Fatui soldiers here. Just us. But why did Dottore mention having his guards keep the chip safe? Could it be that he knew I was reading his experiment journal? Or was this related to his visit with his so-called queen whom he admires so much?
No matter, now was not the time for my already dulled mind to wander. My breathing was heavy as I watched the soldier whine in agony and hold his side. "Does it hurt." I let out, rubbing at the ache around my neck. His hold was surely going to leave a massive bruise tomorrow.
"What the fuck do you think?!" He growled out in anger, baring his teeth at me fiercely.
"I want you to feel the pain I felt, mentally and physically," I explained, slowly getting back up on my feet, my body wavering as I did. Then, gradually, through my thickly-hazed mind and aching limbs, I was at the feet of the Fatui soldier; towering over his kneeled state and watching as he protectively clutched his side. "Fatui scum."
"You're sick!"
"I'm only as sick as your beloved doctor." Clenching and unclenching my hand, I pulled my scalpel out from within my locks and smiled slightly, "and your doctor is a very very sick man."
With those words, the man watched in horror as I attempted to plunge the scalpel into his temple. But he dodged in time, ducking and rolling. His lethargy gave him away, however, and so did the amount of blood that was spilling from his side.
He was dying slowly, right before my eyes, yet he held on to hope for survival. It's time I ripped that hope out of him alongside his last breath.
Making my way over to the man who was breathing harshly, I kicked his injured side as hard as I could and placed my foot down on his stomach before he could react to the pain. He bellowed and in retaliation grabbed my ankle, trying to push me off him. But to no avail, I pushed down against his stomach and leaned down to peer at his tear-streaked face.
I hadn't noticed before, but it was clear now, he was in tears. The thought of him crying pulled me out of my trance and I released him from beneath me. This man is just human... what if he has a family? What if he has a kid or something? I can't just-
No. I can.
I can kill him just like I killed the others.
It was easy. It was child's play.
Why think about such things now, when it's already too late for him anyway.
He was on the verge of death, all I was doing was making it easier for him to just die.
He noticed my hesitancy and began to slowly drag his body away from me in fear.
What have I done?
What have I been doing to these people?
I walked slowly over to him, absentmindedly, letting the horror in his eyes lead me.
Did I enjoy this feeling.
...
I think I enjoy this feeling.
