The Fatui man was the first to make his move. He took one step, then two. Then finally, on shaky tired legs, he began to rush towards the fountain and dunk his whole face into the cool clear water.
I followed suit, no questions asked, feet stumbling ever so slightly as I pushed myself down against the fountain edge and closed my eyes. Submerging my dirtied face deep into the water beneath I relished in its sweet flavour like it was the holiest of waters on this planet. I know people were looking at us in horror, but I didn't care, not when this water quenched my dried aching throat, my torn, peeling lips and my thirst.
Finally, after having relieved our parchedness, we took a few minutes by the fountain to rest before journeying through the Akademiya once again; as we did, I began to conjure a plan on how I was going to go about surgically placing this new chip inside me. My previous arm was, of course, no longer in service thanks to this metal monstrosity that plagued heavily below my elbow. So it was a matter of finding a new spot. Maybe my leg or my other arm will do the trick, as long as it is cushioned by meat and allows for appropriate connectivity to the Akasha terminal.
The soldier opened up door after door and led me through hallway after hallway until finally, he came to a stop in front of a familiar-looking leaf-webbed mahogany door.
"Isn't this..."
He pushed open the heavy wooden panel to reveal the old laboratory I had been kept hostage in, it looked as though Dottore had his men clean the whole lab up before we left; it was impeccable. Not a spot of blood anywhere.
"Alright, we're here." He turned around to face me slowly.
I know what he's going to do, I have been waiting for this moment ever since we left the ruin guard and went on this dreadful expedition.
The soldier stretched his arms across his chest, his annoyed glances had turned into animalistic fury as he began to take long strides my way. I suppose that drink at the fountain was exactly the energy he needed right now.
I was ready for the assault, or so I thought. Not having enough time to undo my scalpel from my hair, I was left open, vulnerable. I all but let him unceremoniously grab my throat. A gurgled cry produced itself from within as I looked up at the soldier in distraught.
"I'll keep you here and let my lord know where you are. When he finds you, you'll be as good as dead. Just like my comrades."
Vision blurred as his grip tightened and I began to struggle slightly, one hand clawing at his wrist whilst the other with the glove still on lightly plunged into the man's side.
"You think" I gasped out, "I wasn't" I coughed and spluttered, the pain in my throat became agonisingly difficult to handle, "expecting this-?"
The man yelped in pain as I began twisting the claws inside him. All the while, my vision became a haze of purple dots and I began to beg in thought for him to release his hold.
Slowly, apprehensively, the man let one hand go off my throat and grabbed the wrist of my prosthetic in hopes to ease his own pain. I scratched at the injured back of his hand which had its palm side practically melted into the skin around my neck. "Fucking die" I huffed out, "Already."
