Dottore roughly clenched my mouth tighter and forced me to face him, he placed a finger against his smiling lips and I furrowed my eyebrows, rolled my eyes and nodded slightly.

It sounded like Aether was talking to someone, I strained to listen but he was so far away that whatever he did say seemed to disperse into the air as it reached where Dottore, his men and I were hiding.

Not long after, the voices diminished and all that was left was a tense silence. After a couple of seconds, Dottore let go of my mouth and I breathed out in relief. "Did you think I would scream, Dottore."

"For once I'm not sure what you are thinking, y/n."

I raised a brow at that, thinking back to all the spontaneity I had showcased during my time in Sumeru. I suppose he had a point, I do tend to act without restraint at times. "Whatever let's just get what we need and go."

In spite of that, there was a part of me that believed he just didn't trust me enough. And honestly, I don't blame him. I absolutely would have screamed if it meant Aether could find me again.

I agreed to this surgery, but that does not necessarily mean I want it.

"Go? Where would we go? I have everything I need here."

"You..." I blinked, "you mean we're doing it here?" Looking around I wrinkled my nose, "in this dingy, rusted, dusty killing machine?"

He laughed but I wasn't joking.

"This place is teeming with bacteria."

"I had a special unit installed in the control panel room, it is the cleanest room in this structure."

I gave him a look of uncertainty, contemplating my choices right about now, before yielding, "I'm sure I can trust your abilities to not kill me during the process then."

"Oh, silly girl. If I wanted to plant infectious diseases in you, I would have already done that by now."

That was not reassuring, despite how he wanted it to sound.

Dottore trudged through the robot, his shoes clinked against industrial-rusted mesh flooring. I and his men followed along, watching our surroundings as we did.

The smell of metal against Sumeru's greenery was overwhelming, manmade and mother nature intermingled in a fight for dominance in this machine. It was intoxicating, humid, and eerily quiet. Save for the loud tapping of our shoes against dusted metal.

It made my skin crawl, but in spite of that, I was still here. Because I wanted to trust the man who has a tight grip on my life right now.

As we arrived at the control room, Dottore set his surgery plan in motion, ordering his men around and telling them to set everything up, some were sent off to ensure no further disruptions would occur whilst others remained in the room prepping countertops and pulling surgical equipment out.

All the while, I was given a cold beverage. I don't know if Dottore thought it would help calm my nerves or if he had noticed how hot I had felt during our expedition here. Either way, I was grateful.

Not long after though, my eyes started to feel groggy. It was like I was tipsy, everything was spinning and my body was no longer able to support itself.  "Zandik-" I managed out, falling against the control panels I was standing next to, my legs wobbled uneasily as I tried to steady myself. But it was useless, no amount of head shaking and attempts to steady my breathing could fix this, I was going down, I could feel it happening.

First, it was my legs that buckled, then my upper body slammed against the nonfunctional switches of the control panel before my arms dragged across the buttons and made their way alongside the rest of my body. I attempted one last gurgle of a word but nothing came out.

"Sleep well, y/n."

Was the last thing I heard before completely falling victim to sleep against the cold dirty metal flooring.

Chapter Notes

Fun fact, this fanfic was supposed to be a reader x Scaramouche, but after the first 2 chapters, I changed my mind and turned it into a Dottore one instead.

It was mainly because the vibe didn't fit Scara, plus for some reason, I was struggling a lot to come up with anything worthwhile when I was doing it on Scara.

Anyway, I am so violently unwell rn, like highkey just had the nastiest coughing fit and tears just poured out fjdslfjd.

I'm so sure when I read through this whole chapter later nothing is going to make sense, cause I was writing it while highkey delirious lmfao

I'll let future me deal with that fuck it

Edit: I've changed a few things and filled in gaps. That's the best I can do lol now I know not to publish smth when ill
