Ignoring my otherworldly remark, he commanded, "Look up" not even breaking a sweat.
His glacial white coat was hanging off his arm whilst his palm rubbed the small of my back endearingly, encouraging me to, for once, listen without forcing his hand.
I looked up wearily and what I saw quite literally stole my breath away. "What..." shock was evident on my features there was just no one way to explain the magnitude of what I was seeing. It made me and my problems feel so small in comparison to the immeasurable size of this ruin guard. "Why...?" I was tipping off the edge of reality in this world, feeling my pulse travel down my neck and into my palpitating heart. The sweat that rolled off my forehead no longer rolled from the heat I was experiencing, but from the sudden calamity of how small I really was in this world.
Ahead of us, in the vast Sumeru landscape, was a gigantic ruin guard that looked to be broken down. One of its tinny arms was missing whilst the other reached out towards us, as though to grab us then and there.
Continuing along the path towards the metal monstrosity, Dottore began to explain the history of Teyvat, the world Sumeru resides in. He went through the different civilisations that once lived and zoned in on the one called khaenri'ah.
In awe, I stared up at the robot as we moved closer and closer until finally, the words Dottore spoke hit me, "so these citizens from a long-lost civilisation created war machines? The size of fucking Sumeru city? Teyvat is no different from my world."
Finally, we reached the entrance of the robot, the metal doors hot from Sumeru's sun.
"My love, it really isn't that bad." I heard Dottore tut, watching his men pry open the doors as his palm still pressed gently against my back.
"Not that bad?" I repeated, disgusted by his statement.
"Think of it this way." He turned to stand in front of me and offered his hand, which I took, of course. "Without khaenri'ah's technological breakthroughs, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to study them and you wouldn't have gotten a free little robotic arm."
"Dottore, I wouldn't have even agreed to this surgery if it weren't for these ruin guards. How on earth does any of it lead to anything good? I, for one, had not planned on losing a limb."
His lip twitched and he forced his smile back down, "You are in a mood today aren't you." A light airy tone to his belittling statement as he began to lead me into the large robot, some lights had turned on as we did and my eyes began to glower at his rhetorical question.
"I beg your fucking pardon?" I think you'll find you're the one in the mood, jackass. I'm quite literally losing a part of me and this is how he behaves?
Just as he was about to respond in his usual cocky manner, we both heard a familiar voice.
It reverberated around us, ricocheting against metal and glass as though it was everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
Aether.
Quickly, Dottore placed a hand over my mouth and pulled me into a vacant boxroom, as he did I let out a soft hum of disapproval and grabbed at his hand. Back pressed against his front, I huffed out my annoyance and struggled to push his hand away.
