Art's Heart

by sloanranger

My friend Edwina, though rarely alone,

sat one night, beside the phone.

And who should ring, wouldn't you know,

but an old college friend - a former beau.

This former beau, a long ago suitor,

had looked her up, on the computer.

Shocked but pleased, by her old sweetheart,

she was happy to hear from her friend, Art.

They soon got together and it didn't take long,

for love to start singing it's old sweet song.

Though he lived some distance, Cupid's dart,

required a move, he'd aimed at Art's heart.

Art sold his house, made plans to depart,

so he and Edwina could make a new start.

They fiddled and faddled & choices varied,

but soon enough they decided to get married.

Been quite happy since they tied the knot,

decorated the house and traveled a lot.

But seems our friend Cupid was true in his aim,

and Arts' heart was just not the same.

So he sees the doctor, whose very smart,

and he tells Art, its not time to depart.

"We'll fix you right up, I know Cupid's tricks,

I'll circumvent, I'll get your heart fixed."

"And don't worry a bit, you won't be the same -

you'll be better than new and back in the game."

So he's back home now, is our friend, Art

and on the mend, since they've fixed his heart.

I'll see him quite soon, at the bookstore,

puttering around and buying more.

As for Edwina, nary a peep,

you know how it is, still waters run deep.

I caution you all about Cupid's darts

and the power indeed, of old sweethearts.

True love is ageless but be stalwart -

and do not forget ... the tale of Art's heart.
