It Started on Lazy Day

Part 22

"Damn it!" I groaned and got up from my place at the table.

I quickly threw the extra from Tail's bento and breakfast into a Tupperware and set it by the door. I had lost my own appetite.

It didn't take much longer for me to hear the doorbell. I felt a bit dizzy as I got up. I guess I'm not over the heat yet. I'll keep resting after this. I grabbed the Tupperware and opened the door. Let's get this over with.

"Sonic," Shadow was here, but he was wearing a mask. He held out a plastic bag in front of me, "Here."

"What's this?" I took the bag and opened it. It was chocolate from the convenience store on the corner. There was a bottle of Cola as well.

"It isn't much, I don't get my allowance until tomorrow. I heard chocolates are one of the most popular cravings omegas have. I wasn't sure which drink you preferred," He pinched the mask tighter around his nose.

"I like Cola, thank you. I'll enjoy it will my lunch later," I felt dizzier now. It was a strong scent I didn't notice until now. Damn it... this weak feeling again. I need to lay down. I grabbed Shadow's lunch and just as I was handing it to him-

"Sonic? Oi!" I felt arms catch me as my legs gave out below me, "Sonic, don't fall asleep! Someone!"

"There's no one here... Remember? It's just Tails and me... Tails left for school..." It was hot... the smell of lavender... it was like someone just made tea.

"You're still in recovery, you should have someone here to care for you..." Shadow picked me up and laid me on the couch.

"I'm fine. I just need to rest a little," I sat up but that just made the room spin, "But maybe you could bring me a painkiller from the box under my bed..."

"... Fine," Shadow set his school bag down and put on a second mask, "Your scent is so strong I can still smell it through the mask."

"I already took my supplements... It shouldn't be..." I shut my eyes, the bright lights were causing my head to throb.

"Which room is yours?"

"The first room upstairs..."

PoV: Shadow

I'm going to be late for class at this rate. I walked upstairs to find two doors at the begin of the hall. Both of these count at a first door damn it.

I opened the one on my left first. I was in a bedroom with two bookshelves. Most of the books were textbooks and encyclopedias. I checked under the bed with airplane sheets, only to find boxes of notebooks. Every box just had more and more notebooks. One had a doodle of Sonic on it.

"This must be the wrong room," I pushed them all back and went to the next room. There was only one box under this bed. I opened the box and... well... I found the pills within the snacks. I ignored the unopened toys which were still wrapped in plastic. I didn't think he would own such things. But the looks of it, he hasn't used them. If he's in heat... I grabbed the bin and brought it down with me, "I'd keep the pills in a separate box if you need Tails to grab them in the future."

"Hm?" Sonic turned to look at me. His face suddenly became red with embarrassment, "It's not what you think! I never bought those!"

"So you stole sex toys?"

"No!" He shouted, sitting up, "Amy got..." he felt back, clearly dizzy again, "Amy made that bin for me... I've never had a heat before... she wanted to make sure I had everything I needed..."

"You haven't had your first heat?" I took the pills out and went to his kitchen to get him water. I saw his clean kitchen, dishes drying after being washed. My lunch had landed on the floor outside when Sonic collapsed. I was late and had nothing left to spend on lunch... or dinner...

"... It's normal for male omegas to develop later..." he took the pill as I brought him the glass of water, "Thank you."

"... Alright, I'm going to make a deal Faker," I pulled off my coat and took a seat on the chair beside the couch, "In exchange for two meals today, I will stay here and care for you."

"Care for me? What are you talking about?"

"You can hardly get around on your own. You can't even sit up without collapsing. How do you expect to feed yourself or even use the restroom?"

"I can take of myself. I don't need help," Sonic growled, but it was hardly intimidating.

"Then stand up on your own, right now," I glared at him and he looked away, remaining quiet, "Thought so. You're helpless. We'll have instant ramen for lunch later."

Sonic hadn't turned back around. He was curled up, facing the back of his couch. I left to pick up the spilled bento and caught a glimpse of his expression. Dispare... ... ...

"Here, it'll help you feel better," I held the chocolate bar I got him in front of him, "You've got plenty more chocolate and snacks in the bin. Just tell me what you want and I'll bring it to you."

"Why are you suddenly being nicer than usual?" Sonic sniffled as he took the chocolate.

"I don't want to lose my meal ticket," I answered, "... You cleaned my house... Which sent you to the hospital, and broke our original arrangement. I felt one action in return was fair. I'm already late for class so may as well skip to ensure my chef can still cook my lunches."

"I didn't intend for you to stay. I was just going to hand you the lunch and shut the door. Sorry, you have to skip," Sonic uncurled himself a bit more. Nibbling on the chocolate.

"One day of absence is nothing. Consider this a one-time arrangement. We can figure out another agreement later," I cleaned up the spilled food and Sonic fell asleep after a few snacks.

Damn it... I pulled off both masks, no matter how much I covered my nose... His scent is suffocating me... I stepped outside for some fresh air, all I smell is him. Even outside...

What the hell? No omega has ever had that strong a scent around me before. I've smelt females in heat before, but it was nowhere near as intense as this...

"Peaches... and honeydew... He smells like a fucking fruit salad."

I'll stay here until he wakes up.

I hadn't noticed my heartbeat slowing down until now. I didn't realize it was beating faster than normal. How long had it been like that? I can't withstand his scent forever.

After today we keep our distance as usual.
