November 29th
-

Approaching the ajar door, Sam knocks.

"Hey.. mom? Are you busy?"

He eyes the elder who sits besides her husband on the bed.

"Oh, hi sweetie, no I'm not, why?"

Sam let's out a shaky breath.

"Can I.. talk to you?"

She glances at her husband with a worried look before looking up at Sam again.

"Of course, something wrong?"

Sam bites his lip looking between his two parents "alone... please?"

His father hums "I should go make dinner anyways."

He stands.

"Thank you" Sam whispers.

He hums walking past him, Sam closing the door behind him before joining his mother on the bed.

"What do you need to talk about?"

Sam let's out a breath "I need.. advice? Kind of."

He speaks rather hesitantly.

She hums softly.

"Oh sure, for what?"

She agrees, happy to help her son.

"Relationships."

She scrunches her brows "what why?"

Sam drops his head.

"I'm having troubles.. doing something" he speaks quietly.

"Well okay, is it because Liam's leaving tomorrow?"

Sam nods slowly.

"Yeah, kinda."

"I'm sorry sweetie but I might not be much help, I've never done long distance."

Sam shakes his head.

"No- I know, it's not that well- it is? No it's not- ugh! I don't know, nevermind" he grunts out in frustration.

He puts his head in his hands.

He grumbles in annoyance.

"Oh.. Sam, what's going on?" she asks softly.

She's beginning to grow worried,

What's got her son so worked up?

"I- I don't know what to do,"

His voice is small, breaking with each word.

"I think I want to break up- but, but I don't know how to."

He finally gives up.

She gasps into her hands.

"Wha- break up with Liam? Why!?"

She's shocked.

Sam shakes his head, trying to rid of his tears.

"I- he's changed ma.. ever since he's moved he's been different, all it ever is is constant arguing now, I don't know what happened but I don't like it.. I've talked to him about it so many times but nothing ever changes, these last few days have been okay because I've been trying my best to make them okay, I just-"

He bites his lip as his gaze falls.

He shakes his head softly as his vision blurs.

He lets out a shaky sigh, trying to rid of his tears.

"I've lost feelings for him" he admits, looking up at his mom with sad eyes.

"Oh baby, I'm so sorry."

She frowns, pulling him into a hug.

"I want to break up with him before he leaves but I can't bring myself to do it, I don't know how to."

She hums softly, beginning to rub his back soothingly.

It falls silent between the two for a moment.

"Well-" she starts.

"Can't say I've ever broken up with somebody myself, but, I think you just need to be honest with him, it will suck for both of you, I'm sure, but you can't drag it along for too long" Sam nods.

"I know that- but- he's going to think it's because of Colby."

"Hm? Colby?"

She begins to grow confused.

Sam nods slowly.

"He's jealous of him."

"Jealous? Why?" She inquires.

"Its complicated to explain, but, I guess he just doesn't like how close we are.. and uh he claims Colby likes me by the way he acts around me, which, he's not wrong, he does like me-"

"What?" She gapes at the new found information.

Sam nods before continuing.

"And.. mom," he whispers.

"Yes?"

"I- I'm positive I like him too."

His voice breaks, tears welling his eyes.

"Oh baby.. hush it's okay, you can't help who you fall for."

She reassures him, speaking with a soft tone.

Sam chokes back a sob, holding her tight "I- I kissed him already mom.. so many times and- and I don't even feel guilty about it."

She pulls him into a warm embrace.

"Shhh honey, your okay, it's alright" he grips onto her tight, crying into her chest.

Calming down, she gently pats his back.

"You need to talk to him now hon, okay? It will be for the best."

Sam nods, pulling away from her.

Looking up at the older women, he wipes his tears.

"Y-your not ma- mad?" He stutters out.

He sniffles wiping his nose with the back of his hand.

"Oh, Sam," she laughs softly.

She reaches up and gently cups his cheeks.

"Why would I be mad? What happens with your relationships is between you and your partner, not me."

Sam nods "but- but you like Liam- and I-"

"Shhh sweetie, I don't care. I think Liam's a sweet boy but so is Colby. It's okay to for things like this to happen, now I don't think cheating needs to happen at any point but I don't think you've intended to do it, just go talk to him honey, I'm not mad at you, alright?"

Sam nods "okay.."

She presses a gentle kiss to his head.

"I would just- for the sake of a better ending, don't bring up kissing Colby, it will end better, okay?"

"Okay, thank you" he mumbles, hugging her tight.

"Of course, now go on, I do believe you and Colby would be a wonderful couple."

Sam gasps gently pushing her back "mom!"

She laughs at his sudden reddened face.

"What? I always suspected something was up."

Sam whines in embarrassment.

"Your so annoying" he grumbles.

He stands stomping over to the door.

"I love you too, honey."

"Love you" he replies before leaving the room.

Maybe he will be okay.
