He would recover. But had he made it? Had it all been worth the price? Above the Avengers, the metal plates that had been activated by the barn door protocol were retracted, and daylight fell into the room. "Did it work?" asked Bruce quietly. A ringing cell phone caught the team's attention as Clint stared, transfixed, at the glowing name that appeared on the display. Laura. So it had actually worked. Bruce, still lying on the ground, looked through the skylight to see a shadow move across the sky and move in front of the sun. It was getting dark in the lab.

The shape could have been a clue to Bruce, but he couldn't actually see Sanctuary II, only its shadow moving in front of the sun. Scott looked out the window and didn't notice the flash until seconds before it hit. Then the hail of missiles began. Explosions were everywhere, shaking the buildings on the site and the ground below. Some of the projectiles flew over the buildings and landed in the lake behind the Avengers headquarters. But the majority found their target. The main building collapsed under the final wave of attack. In Tony's lab, the whole building could be felt shaking, and the room broke apart. Flames blazed everywhere as more and more projectiles fell from the sky. Everything seemed to explode at the same time. And hovering above the action was Thanos' ship.

"Cap? Abigail?" Clint staggered through the darkness, took a flashlight from his belt and turned it on. He was in a maintenance tunnel, one of many that stretched beneath the Avengers' compound. Shining the light on the floor, he saw Abigail and Pietro lying in the water. The older one had wrapped his arms around her as they fell to protect them from the impact. "Pietro, Abigail, wake up. Are you hurt?" asked Clint, kneeling down to shake them by the shoulder. Almost simultaneously, the two woke up and struggled back to their feet. "Still all there," Abigail confirmed and stood up fully. As she did so, something caught her eye out of the corner of her eye. She walked a few steps further and spotted the glove among some debris. Behind her came Clint with his bow raised and in a fighting stance. He had not missed the unfamiliar sound.

Something alive was coming toward them. Hawkeye aimed at the dark tunnel where the red emergency lights could be seen some distance away and told Abigail to stand behind him. The little light was not enough to see much and he had no choice but to fire blindly into the passage. His arrow gave them enough light to make out horrible looking creatures. And the worst part. They were coming right at them. "Okay," Clint said. "Time to go." He grabbed the glove and jumped over a pile of rubble to run in the opposite direction through the tunnel. Pietro took Abi by the hand and used his ability to get to safety in time. The Outriders were close on their heels.
