It was a typical start to their day, waking up to an alarm, getting some toast and heading out the door, but what Y/n didn't notice was that their alarm that went off was the last one, meaning that they were late.

"I hate being late for my own classes," Y/n mumbled out loud, running their fingers through their hair as they pushed open the door to class. Y/n loved their classes, but they hated being late, especially to them. They didn't want to think about how much of their education would end because they were late to class.

As if on cue, the clock struck 8 am and Y/n was already five minutes late to class. 'This is going to cost me,' Y/n thought as they made their way over to their desk, quickly pulling out their books and writing notes on their notebook. As soon as their professor walked into the room, class began.

The professor stood behind her podium and stared straight at her students with a serious expression. It wasn't hard to tell she was a strict teacher, but her voice did not match the image, "Good morning students. Today, you'll begin your first semester of college. This year we will be focusing on different areas of interest. I hope you all enjoy learning and studying together, but remember that no matter what you do or where you choose to live, this world is unforgiving. You are expected to work hard and succeed. If I hear any complaints, I will have to ask you to leave the classroom early. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Professor."

"Good. Now, today we will begin our introduction to the Japanese language. We will discuss dialects and cultural practices in depth, starting with the Japanese word." She said, smiling at her students as she wrote down a few notes and glanced at the clock. "You will be working in groups of two for this portion of the hour."

It wasn't all that bad, considering that the college was an international one, but having partners? Y/n didn't like to have a lousy partner, but what had surprised them was that the Prof chose Japan, not the place people could go to, but the student that was there. "oh uh- wouldn't this be cheating, Prof?" Y/n questioned with unease, already starting to feel the burning gazes of the other students.

The Prof looked up from her notes, staring straight at Y/n, "Is it? Well then let's make sure we learn how to do things right. Don't worry, everyone, we'll learn everything under the same roof."

Y/n nodded, "O... okay." They were confused, but knew that arguing would get them nowhere. They didn't have time to waste arguing with someone whose mind was set, "Okay then. So how do we work this out?"
"First, we will introduce ourselves. After you are done, introduce yourself again, but in Japanese" the boy that Y/n was partnered with spoke decent English but it could use tuning "oh... I honestly chose this class at random... I'm not really fluent in Japanese... other than the fact that I have watched too many anime and learned a few words like kon'nichiwa and nani..."

Japan laughed softly, of course it was those two of his language someone would learn first, it was easy to remember and easily used "well, Kon'nichiwa is a greeting, like hello, and depending on who you are with, nani can be delivered as a neutral 'what?'. Now, Good morning is 'ohayō', normally if written in the Kanji, it would be gentle and sleek, not hastily written as if you were running down a busy street..." Y/n had a lot to learn, but they listened to Japan ramble on about his language, seemingly going in detail with Kanji and how to respectfully say things, because, as to what he said, 'Respect is everything in my country, without it, you will be shunned and basically posted as a dishonorable person that no one trusts, that is until you either get over your past and try to make connections through good deeds, or move to another district altogether.'
