Chapter twenty-eight🫶🏼

Start from the beginning

She turned her body so that her back was facing me and she started to walk deeper into the forest as if she had no care in the world about the sticks and bugs that could harm her, not to mention how sick she could get.

With a deep sigh and I walked over to her and quickly swooped down and threw her over my shoulder. She let out a squeak and started to hit my back. "Put me down Rain! It's not your job to babysit me!" I almost laughed at that. My job right now is to literally protect her.

I felt my shoulder hit her stomach with each step so I took her off my shoulder and I laid her across my arms instead. I glanced down at the little worm that was wiggling in my arm and shook my head.

She pushed on my chest and I finally snapped, I quickly stopped walking and glared down at her. "You are acting like a fucking child. It's my job to protect you but right now it's to babysit you since you can't act your age." After I spoke I instantly regretted it. I didn't mean to snap that bad and I definitely didn't mean for her to go still in my arms.

I looked up and started to walk again. "Put me down." I shook my head and held her tighter against my body. Suddenly I felt a sharp sting on the side of my face and I looked down in shock to see Evelyn glaring at me with glossy eyes.

She took my moment of shock to her advantage and quickly pushed my chest as I accidentally dropped her to the ground. She let out a huff and quickly got to her feet. "Fuck you Rain. I'm not a child. I don't need protection. I don't need help." Her voice was wobbly and her eyes were filling with tears.

I walked over to her and she started to back away once again. "Ms.Leone. Stop moving, your hurt." I pointed to her feet which had a few cuts on them but she didn't seem to care. She quickly glanced down at her feet and I took my chance to practically tackle her in a bear hug.

I covered her mouth so that none of the other guards would hear her squeal and started to walk to the back of the house. She looked like a fish out of water as she repeatedly threw her head back into my chest.

Once I got to the back door I looked around the living room and saw only the kitchen light on. Nick was sitting on the couch watching tv and my bet is that Marco is in the kitchen cooking something.

I opened the door quietly and Evelyn froze in my arms. I sighed in relief as I quickly and quietly passed by Nick. I glanced into the kitchen and right as Marco turned his back I quickly rushed out of the kitchen and into the corridor.

My gun was pressing into Evelyn's back with each step I took up the stairs. I wanted to adjust her so that she would be somewhat comfortable but she seemed to not care as her body stayed in a stick like position.

Once I got to her room I opened the door and walked through, closing it behind me before I let Evelyn out of my arms so that I could lock her door. The last thing I need is one of her brothers killing my whole family for absolutely nothing. Although I wouldn't be opposed to them killing some of my family.

I turned to face Evelyn but she was already walking to her bathroom. I grabbed the chair from her desk and flipped it around before sitting on it. My gun was uncomfortable around my chest so I took it off and put the safety on before placing it down on the desk.

I heard a door open and I glanced up to see Evelyn holding a small first aid kit in her shaky hands. She was wearing shorts and a thin shirt out in the fucking winter air. Stupid girl.
