Today, I woke up early. It was finally the big day– the day I break my best friend's heart... but let me start from the beginning...

For five months, I've concocted this plan. I am a Channeller, so I can not only hear the thoughts of other people, but I can also control a susceptible person's actions for a few minutes (and much more). And that is exactly what I've been working towards for the past few months– making Adein susceptible enough to me so that I can take control of him.

It breaks my heart knowing that I'm going to tear Serina apart, but she has to cut all of her ties to the human world if she is to fulfill her destiny, so it must be done... even if it means losing my best friend. Now, where were we. Ah, yes.

Today, I woke up early. It was finally time to put my plan into action, and I had to make sure everything was perfect. So, I got up, showered, practically bathed in my special perfume (the leverage I used to make Adein distracted enough for me to enter his mind), and put on the most seductive outfit I could think of. If I'm going to do this, I might as well do it right. Once ready, I begin to sneak out of the house before Liam wakes up.

I climb out of my window, so as not to wake Liam, whose bedroom is right next to mine. And I head towards the beach. I plan on spending all morning near the docks, watching for Adein's boat to arrive.

Adein has been overseas for almost a month now, so working that part of the plan out was a little tricky. Two weeks ago, I sent him a letter that Serina was in the hospital terribly ill, and that he should meet me at the docks today at noon so I can take him to her.

All I had to do was wait...

After a few hours, Adein's boat is finally coming into to dock. I hurry over– but not too fast as I'd hate to fall in my wedges and ruin this gorgeous outfit.

Adein gets off the boat and he looks as human as ever with his long blonde hair in a slight mess and the sweat building up on his face as he rushes off the boat, worried about Serina. He comes directly to me and says, "where is she, is she–"

He's cut off mid-sentence as he smells my perfume. That's my call. I close my eyes and focus really hard on penetrating his head. Once inside, I fill his mind with thoughts of how beautiful I am, of how it would feel to hold me in his arms, to have his lips touch my as he runs his hands through my freshly curled hair...

He takes the bait, and as I open my eyes, I see him slowly lick his lips.

"So, umm..." he mumbles.

"Oh, you idiot– just kiss me!" I roll my eyes and take a deep breath, trying to prepare myself for possibly the grossest thing I've ever done.

He grabs me by the back of the neck and pulls me in slowly... I guess he's trying to make it romantic or something.

Seconds pas and I pray Serina showed up so that this kiss wasn't for nothing... and that's when I hear it.

Tires screeching, someone yells "Serina!" but it's too late. I turn around just in time to see her head hit the ground from the impact of the black van...

The whole world stops. How could she be so careless? Why didn't she just look before running towards us?

I panic. It was all my fault! I should've found another way to break them up. If it weren't for me, my best friend wouldn't be half dead in the middle of the road.

I run as fast as I can. I run away when I should be checking to see if she's ok. But I can't face my mistakes. How can I show my face to Liam when I might've just killed the only chance Solunaria has...?
