Later that night, I went for a walk outside. The air was crisp and cool, the moonlight felt sweet on my skin. All around was dark, but for some reason, I didn't mind. I decided I wanted to go to the forest for a stroll– on the island we live, if you go past town, to the north, you'll find a huge forest before the mountains. I've never been allowed to go to past the forest into the mountains– heck, mum and Sebby won't even let me go in the forest, but tonight, I was feeling adventurous. So, I trekked on...

I made it to the forest, and the was a sign that read "Keep Out!". I ignored it, of course, and continued inside.

The trees were massive and blocked out all of the light from the moon and stars, so I was in complete darkness. I got a chill up my spine as I heard murmured whispers from a far. I squinted my eyes to try and get a better view of what was ahead, but the deeper into the forest I went, the darker it got.

My other senses became heightened as I began to smell the strong odor of pine, feel the cold air as it suffocated me, taste the fear in my mouth, and here a voice surrounding me.

"I'mmmm coming for you, Seeeeeeeerina..." it whistled almost like a snake, "I'll fiiiiiiiiiind you, just you wait!"

I feel something grab me from behind! Before I could even think about screaming for help, it covers my mouth. Whatever it is was darker than total darkness, its hand was long with long, sharp black fingernails that edged on my face.

I guess this is what I get for coming to the forest I was told to stay out of all alone at night. I try to take in a deep breath and remain calm, but its hand is so tightly wrapped around my mouth and nose that I can't breathe. So, instead, I close my eyes and wait for my demise...

The shadowy figure throws me onto the ground and snarls at me fiercely... I quickly turn around and try to grab something– anything to defend myself with. But as it gets closer, I realize there's nothing around me, not even a stick. I brace myself for the impact and the monster jumps right at me...

I close my eyes and then...

Nothing...

I open them to see a shadowy figure fighting off the monster. It squeals in agony as my rescuer's teeth sink into it, but just as I think it might be over, the monster scratches the figure, and he falls onto the ground.

The monster looks back at me and starts heading this way... I try to stand and run, but I must've twisted my ankle in the fall, so instead, I begin backing up as fast as I can...

After a few steps back, my back hits the trunk of a tree, and I knew it was the end. Once again, I shield my face from the attack, but just as the monster is coming in on me, the shadowy figure pounces on it and sinks its teeth into it for the second time.

The shadow monster disappeared into a puff of black dust, and it was over...

Out of breath, a deep scratchy voice says, "are you okay?"

At a complete loss for words, I just sit there for a minute. I have so many questions, and yet it's like my mouth just won't open. What was that thing? Why did it attack me? Who are you? Why did you save me? When I can finally catch up to my thoughts, all I can muster is, "Yeah, I'm ok, thanks to you."

"Good. Can you stand?"

I shake my head. And he says he'll carry me out of the forest, telling me to climb on.

I reach out in front of me for a hand, but to my surprise, I'm greeted with... a ball of fur? I don't question it and climb on the figures back. He starts running, and I begin to see the moonlight.

When we make it out of the forest, he puts me down...

"This is as far as I go..."

I look up and see that my savior is none other than a black wolf. He looks massive from my space on the ground, towering over me like some sort of beast. But to my surprise, I'm not startled... I feel safe... and then he looks down at me.

Our eyes meet and it's like sparks fly. My heart starts beating faster and I feel light-headed. I can't even begin to explain it but something tells me to say something instead of just awkwardly staring at him.

"Can I at least know your name?" is the most English I'm able to put together.

"Kail. It's time for you to go now, goodbye, Serina." He smiles and then takes off into the night.

Kail... my heart flutters as heat arises in my cheeks, and I feel as if I'm in a daze...

After a few minutes, I shake myself out of it, just to realize I have no way of getting home...

That's when I woke up in a sweat...
