I woke early the next morning, and while I don't normally shower twice in a row, I'm a morning showerer and last night was an exception. So, I get some clothes for the day, and go to the bathroom.

Once I'm out of the shower, I dry off my hair and begin to get dressed. For today, I decided to go a little more casual, especially after my mental breakdown last night, so I went with some jean shorts and a purple tube top. After I got dressed, I headed down the stairs to see my mum for the first time since yesterday morning.

I'm about halfway down the stairs when I hear his voice– but it can't be, for he's not supposed to be back for another three months. So, I sneak down the rest of the stairs to see who is here...

"Things are getting really bad at home..." I make out as I'm walking through the hall.

"I don't care, she's just too young. She's not ready yet! You really can't expect me to–" my mum gets cut off as Sebastian averts his attention to me and says,

"Good morning, beautiful."

Our mum whips around and looks at me shocked, with that awkward expression that just screams "how long have you been standing there". I want to ask them what they were talking about, but I knew there's no point, as they would've continued if I were meant to hear. So, instead, I run over to my older brother and scream:

"Sebby!!"

Back in my normal tone, "You weren't supposed to be back this soon; what're you doing here?"

Raising an eyebrow, he says, "Can't a guy just miss his favorite little sister"

I chuckle, "Yeah, right. I'm your only sister, and they'd never let you come home because you missed me. So, really, why are you here?"

Sebastian is a solider for the military, so he's hardly ever home. They, being his bosses, or I guess you'd say lieutenants or whatever, always have him traveling for training– whether it be his own or that of JROTC members. He's really passionate about protecting our country, so I don't blame him for being away all the time– every once in a while, I even clean his room for him.

He sighs and says, "if you must know– you nosey little booger– I got special permission to leave when I heard the big news. And it was supposed to be a surprise, but I'm here until your birthday."

I cannot believe the words that just came out of his mouth! They never let him stay this long– I cannot tell you how many birthdays he's missed. Out of pure excitement I hug my brother, squeezing the life out of him.

But then I remember what he said about his special permission, and I wonder out loud, "what big news?"

He steps back and looks at me puzzled before moving his gaze to our mum and saying, "Ma, can you believe this one? Sleeps all night and it's like her brain never wakes up." Turning back to me, "I'm here because of your anniversary with Adein, stupid. I was meant to be here yesterday, but my flight got delayed and–"

He's still talking but my heart sinks. I stop listening to every word he's saying. It's like the world stops. Adein, our anniversary, yesterday. All my problems start flooding in again and I panic because I can't cry, not here, not now. So, I just stand there frozen. And I think Sebby notices something's wrong because he stops mid-sentence and asks:

"Ser, you good?"

I immediately snap out of my trance and shake my head. I look back up at him and I smile, saying "I'm fine, just shocked you're here, that's all."
