I turned my head away from his statement to hide my blushing face. The blushing that always had my heart rushing, is so disgustingly sugar-sweet. Though I had meditated and minimized my thoughts of him, it all came rushing back.

It had been 10 months I thought he would have moved on by now with that woman. Yet, he is declaring to the man before him that he wants to make me his wife! It was as if he was asking for trouble considering this man was the very one that the clan wanted me to marry.

"Hm, Y/N," Tengen's brother asked, "who is this outsider?"

"Don't worry about him," I responded, "you should worry about the message I gave you. Consider me an outsider just like Tengen."

"That isn't an option," he responded as he quickly weaved past Rengoku and struck again, only this time he sliced through my shoulder as I sliced through his cheek, "know your place in the clan as it would be an honor to be the wife of the next head of the clan."

Soon, he turned to deflect Rengoku's attack as he looked at the man apathetically while Rengoku's visage was stricken with rage.

"Stop meddling in other's affairs."

"Y/N's affairs are my affairs," Rengoku beamed, which seemed to turn up the warmth radiating off him. The determination and passion within his golden hues really proved Uzui's words correct, "and she will not be your wife! She will be mine!"

"You should heed your own advice," I responded again disregarding Rengoku's presence, "I am not going with you as I stated before and I'll state again, I do not wish to be degraded to a mere object in which my purpose would be to take your seed and to carry your kins. It was my father's wish to follow my heart, the man beside me has my heart; therefore, I choose to honor his request."

Rengoku was pushed back slightly from the force of the kunai in Tengen's brother's hand. Soon Tengen's brother turned his back on me and looked over his shoulder once more before disappearing.

The click of my katana being sheathed announced the result of the combat, my breathing completely stealthy and your eyes fixed on where he had disappeared

Something tells me he would return again and for him to even appear now...explains that they were desperate in having strong heirs. But for now, I had to put that to the side and the issue was dealing with the man before me.

"Y/N! It has been so long!" he spoke with his tone filled with energy. He was oozing positivity with radiance. It had been 10 months so it was normal for one to be excited around the one they love... yet the images of that night, Rengoku and that woman in the rain-her eyes bewitched by his gold and crimson orbs--the owlish smile plastered on his lips...were the exact same as they were with me...His eyes beaming with happiness as they locked with mine. He sheathed his sword. Kyojuro strode towards me, his entire being projecting a sense of pure power, and yet I reacted by taking a step away. My action caused him to stop walking.

"Y/n?" His brows furrowed at my reaction breaking his countenance.

Something between that interaction and Mitsuri's was a bit different. With Mitsuri's relationship with him, I wasn't sure but I had accepted the facts for whatever they were...but with this one, something was telling me it was either one-sided or mutual. Given the 10-month span, it probably would have been mutual ...so -

"Did master send you to come?"

"N-no, I came because I was asked by the cook at the noodle shop to escort his daughter-the waitress from when we ate here for some ingredients."

"Then how did you know where to find me?" I questioned soon after stoically after hearing he was with that waitress.

"My crow reported seeing you meditating," Rengoku boisterously reported, "So, I immediately left to come see you since has been 10 months of not seeing each other!"
