When I enter the livingroom, I get a déjà-vu. At about seven or eight years ago, they were fighting

over me, about whom I loved more. That memory makes me smile. Those two half grown boys, Jim

jealous of Jaden for spending so much time with me and Jaden thought Jim was my boyfriend.

That was before even he himself knew that he was gay.

Now they stand in the exact same spots, chests puffed up, and they simply looked ridiculous.

“Boys! Listen up. Jim,” I start, turning to him “First: don’t go all nuts.” I order, when his eyes shoot

daggers at me. “Second: Melanie is a grown up woman, not the little girl that played with your

barbies, not anymore. And third: as well as I am informed, they wanted it. I was shocked too, but

mostly cause Jaden didn’t tell me before. I think you should let them explain everything to you. And

let them finish their speech, not just yell at them. That won’t make them change their minds.” When

I said that they wanted the kid, Jim’s eyes got big and he let himself fall on the couch. So then I

guess he didn’t know anything at all about the baby. Probably I just came home a few minutes after

he ran in. Turning to Jaden, I continue my lecture.

“Jaden. Try and see this all from his point of view. How would you react if it was me being

pregnant? Just think about it and you might understand Jim. And you and Melanie will have to tell

him everything. Make him understand your decision, or at least try to.”

“By the way, where are our parents?” I suddenly realised that they were nowhere to be seen.

“They’re over at my parents’ house. And sorry about screaming at you like that.” Jim excuses. “Is

Melanie still here? I’d like to talk to the two of them.”

I shrug my shoulders, and walk out to see if I can find her. That worked out better than I thought. For

once they did actually listen to me. Melanie is sitting on the stairs when I find her, tears streaming

down her cheeks. I hurry over to her and give her a hug, smoothing her hair.

“It’s alright, Jim’s agreed to listen to you. He’ll understand, but he might need some time. Don’t be

angry at him. Come with me?” Instead of saying something, she nods in my shoulder and stands

up.

“Thank you Marivi. You would be so much better a mom than me.” I just laugh at that.

“No, trust me I’d not. Head up, everything will be fine, you’ll see.” So then it’s not just in movies that

pregnant women loose all their self-confidence. We first go to the kitchen and each grab a cup milk

before we turn around the corner to the boys. Now we’re both snorting with laughter and I regret

having my phone in the entry. They’re wresting on the floor, punching each other with the pillows

from the couch. Luckily, Mel has her phone ready and makes a shot before they notice us. Without

thinking again, I put myself on top of them.

“Argh, Jaden, you just became so much heavier.” Jim complains.
