I put some comfortable clothes on and walked downstairs after my routine. Amy had a big smile on her face.

"Don't look happy about it," I huffed as I went to the kitchen and grabbed myself an apple.

"Sorry, it was an accident. Besides you showed me. I didn't tell you to undress," Amy placed a set of papers on my table, "I was told to bring you yesterday's assignments."

"Thanks..."

"Seriously, with Tails in the bed too?"

"It wasn't on purpose! I move around a lot in my sleep. I usually kick my clothes off. Somehow my burrowing instincts kick in and I wake up buried under all the blankets and pillows. It's never on purpose. I didn't know Tails was in my bed until this morning. Something's bothering him," I started mixing together the eggs and heating the pan.

"You were in the hospital," Amy got up and started cutting the apple into slices, "You take care of him, so it probably scared him seeing you like that. And it wasn't just the hospital. You were sick from the moment you started those meds. Tails would tell me and Blaze every day that you had fevers, headaches, and all these side effects. He watched you get so sick you could barely stand. It'll take time. It's still taking me- no, all of us time to trust that you're okay."

"... You learned that from the psychology book you found," I placed the slices she cut into Tails' lunch box, "It wasn't meant to scare anyone, or risk anything like that... Sorry..."

"Don't worry," Amy set the knife down a hugged me, "We'll forgive you once we trust you."

"So then... not yet?" I sighed.

"Nope," she laughed.

"Figured." I finished Tail's lunchbox and set it aside before making onigiri for breakfast, "Hey!"

"Thanks for breakfast, see ya after class," Amy stole my portion and ran out the door.

"She just came by to steal food," I groaned as I now had to make another portion for myself.

"Tails, time to get up," I went upstairs to wake him.

"Mm... Did you make rolled omelets like you promised?"

"Yup, all packed for your lunch. I made spam onigiri and eggs for breakfast too," I pulled him out of the covers.

"Sonic... I don't wanna go to class today," Tails hugged me, "I wanna stay home with you."

"Tails..." he wasn't letting go any time soon. Despite being in college as a genius on full scholarship... he was still a child, "Do you have anything important in class today?"

"I don't think so..." he held on tighter.

"Do you have a way to catch up on the notes you'll need?" I rubbed his back.

"Yeah... the teacher posts them online."

"You can stay home today," I picked him up, "Oh... you're heavier than I remember. Going down-"

"Sonic! Ahahaha!" Tails laughed as I turned us around and fell back onto the bed, "Lair, you can still pick me up."

"No, I can't. You're too big~ But I can still catch you!" I caught him and started to tickle him until he broke out in laughter, "Alright! Let's eat lunch and breakfast at the same time!"

"Mint candy for dessert!" He cheered.

"Ah, we still need to buy some."

"You forgot! I want mints! Mints! Mints!" He whined.

"Okay, okay. Let's go shopping today. I'll let you pick out the big bag."

"Yeah!"

"Tails," I ruffled his fur, "I love you."

"... I-I love you too," he hugged me and ran off, "I'm gonna eat my omelet!"

Such a good kid. Maybe some mint ice cream should be his dessert tonight.

Bzz... My phone went off. It was another message from Shadow.

--- Just Now ---

I'd like to have one of your lunches when you're back from suspension. I'll pay you for it.

------

"Huh?" I had to reread the message over and over, "Did he just... ask nicely?"

Tails ran past me and started pulling my bed apart, "Got it!"

"Tails. Why do you have a notebook in my room?" I recognized that notebook he always wrote in.

"No reason, bye!" He ran past me and into his room.

"Miles! I told you to get rid of those notebooks!"

"Never!"

What am I gonna do with this kid? My phone buzzed again. Another message.

What am I supposed to do about him?
