Chapter 31:

            I sat upright as soon as I woke up. My body is covered in sweat yet I'm shivering. David comes into my room, his hair an array of colors again. "Mornin', sunshine." He said cheerily. I merely nodded in his direction, trying to remember my dream.

"Dave," I said. "I have a plan, but we need to leave first thing tomorrow morning. We also..." I gulped. "We also have to leave Rose."

            David looked at me skeptically but handed me a piece of paper and pencil. "Write it down." He grunted. With that, he whisked himself out the door. I got to work. Here is what my list looked like:

·      Go to mountain

·      Find Rose

o   Explain what happened

·      Leave grace

·      Packing list —

o   Water and food

o   Blankets

o   Books about powers

·      Plan

o   Shadow travel to mountain

 I was so caught up in writing that I didn't notice David looking over my shoulder. I smiled at him, showing him my plan. He looked at me as if I were crazy and then literally asked me if I was deranged.

"No! It's a good plan."

"Are you insane? This plan is way too flawed, we can't do this, dude."

            I looked at him sadly and he sighed. He walked out of the room muttering things about how would he ever get ready. I went back to work on my list.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After an hour of staring at a nearly blank page, I gave up. I got up to try and find Dave or Grace. As I walked out the door of the bedroom, I found myself in an area that must be the living room. The walls were covered in floral wallpaper and I'm standing on wood. A frail looking woman came up behind me. "What are you doing out of bed?" She snapped.
"Oh, um, I needed a bit of fresh air."
"Get back in there," her accent matched Dave's.
            My shoulders and back arched forward and I sulked, dragging myself to my makeshift bedroom. Inside, I found my sister doodling on scrap paper with crayons. I sat next to her on the bed. Without looking up from her drawing, she smiled at me. "I know your plan." She confidently said.
I couldn't bear to look at her. "Oh," was all I could manage.
"I fully support you."
"Oh!" I said, a bit more cheerfully.
"Go find her," she smirked.
            My face fell pale. She knew about Rose. My seven-year-old sister is wiser than I am. Putting my arms around her, she cried into my chest, reminding me of Rose. "I'm going to miss you and your mischievous ways."
"Are you seven or seventeen?" I joked.
"I'm actually ten." I choked on my saliva.
"Ten?! Grace when did you turn ten?"
"Few days ago actually."
"When did you turn eight?"
"Owen, come on you're fifteen, what is ten minus eight?" she smiled.
"Oh God, what the heck?"
"I...um...this could take some explaining."
"You think?" I stared at her in disbelief.
            "Okay, now is as good a time as any. Owen, I was adopted. When I was, well, dead, I had the weirdest dreams. The simple reasoning is that Mom and Dad adopted me and my birth certificate was wrong. Being through what we've been through, we both know that's not the reason. I've never been where I was supposed to be. I...oh God how do I say this?" She sat silent for a moment, contemplating her thoughts. "I...I have powers." She stuttered. I continued to stare at her, unblinking. "Oh stop looking at me like that! I guess it runs in the family. I also know some other things, but now doesn't seem like the right time..."
"You're telling me all of this now?" I fumed. "You might as well tell me the rest!"
She sighed. "Okay, where do I begin?"
"The end of the beginning." I muttered.
