“What do you want?” Kang Jia said dismissively. She tucked Park Chaeyong’s arm, gesturing her not to act rashly—they still didn’t know the purpose of her visit.

Lim Min Ji grinned. “I heard you were in an accident, so I’m visiting you. It looks like you’re speaking fine. Phew, what a relief.”

“You? Relief?” Park Chaeyong rolled up her sleeves. “Cut the crap. Nothing good ever come out of you.”

A bitch would always be a bitch, and Lim Min Ji was the bitchiest of them all. Park Chaeyong stood in front of the bed protectively, and her eyes full of hostility. It was to prevent the intruder from coming any closer.

Yet, without any hint of uneasiness, Park Chaeyong bent down, relaxed, to place the fruit basket on the ground. “Here’s a little something from Taehyung and me since we’re getting married shortly. Get well soon,” she lowered her head and let out a faint smile.

“Stop it. You’re disgusting!” Park Chaeyong kicked the basket away, glaring at the girl with all rage. What if she had poisoned the fruit?

“Ms. Lim, I’ll need you to leave at once, or I’ll call security.” Dae-Hyun stepped forward to shield Park Chaeyong.

Embarrassed, Lim Min Ji frowned, her gaze stuck on the girl on the bed. She laughed, “You’ll give us your blessing, won’t you?”

No one knew where those words came from, and Lim Min Ji was a crackbrain. She and Kim Taehyung had the same dogmatism—birds of a feather did flock together, it seemed.

“Sure. Here’s to a long and happy marriage and congratulations,” Kang Jia beamed.

Chu Yaoyao was annoyed at her lack of jealousy—was she as indifferent as she seemed, or was it all a show?

If she was pretending, then—

Lim Min Ji gave them an eerie smile before leaving the ward. The instant she closed the door, Park Chaeyong opened the window to the room for ventilation. “Oh my god. That perfume odor! I thought I’d suffocate back there. I never knew Kim Taehyung’s into this kind of gal.”

It set Kang Jia off laughing, her gloomy mood brightened. “Who cares? It’s got nothing to do with me.”

“Are you sure you’re over him?” Kang Dae-Hyun studied his sister’s eyes carefully, looking for any trace of deception.

Kang Jia flinched. Just as she was about to answer him, his phone rang—it was their father, and she got agitated. “Please don’t tell mom and dad, Oppa. Please!” She broke down, tugging the corner of his shirt.

Resigning to his fate, Kang Dae-Hyun promised her.

On the other end of the line, Lim Nam-gil asked about how his daughter was doing. Once he was sure her condition was stable, he told them that he was still on holiday with their mother. They’d be back in a month.

When Kang Jia cued him with eye contact to finish up, he hung up after speaking for a few more minutes.

“That scared the hell out of me, Oppa. You know dad—he’s always attentive,” she sighed.

“Yeah. So you stay here, okay?” Kang Dae-Hyun chuckled, patting his sister on the head. “I’ve got to go—office duties. It’s a relief knowing Chaeyong would be here with you.”
