Kang Jia rolled her eyes at him. She couldn’t be bothered to argue with the middle-aged man—it would only be a waste of her time. She dragged Kang Sang-Jun by the arm and headed into the interview room for her statement, with Kim Taehyung following behind.

It went smoothly, and it didn’t take too long for them to come out. Yet, at the exit was the Chois—they never left. The instant they saw Kang Jia, agitation flooded over them again, and they babbled about not letting her go.

“Officer Cha was the one permitting my leave. What’s the point of causing a scene here?” Kang Jia said with scorn. She had a terrible day, having no idea how she would explain the whole thing to Kang Sang-Jun. Judging the look on his face, she knew she messed up.

As for Choi So-hee, she would press charges later on. She needn’t be a saint when none of the Chois were appreciative of her act of goodwill. The last thing she’d expected was Mr. and Mrs. Choi, once easy-going, had now become lunatics.

Words rushed out of Mr. Choi’s mouth. “Don’t get too cocky. Look at her, Officer Cha. She’s provoking us. You need to lock her up! If you let her walk away, she’ll become a danger to our community!”

Oh. A criminal offense.

Kang Jia made eye contact with the officer, hoping that he’d take care of the rest. Officer Cha nodded. “Mr. and Mrs. Choi, we all knew what happened with So-hee, and our hearts go out to you. But accusing someone of something they didn’t do is slander, a crime. If Ms. Kang chooses to press charges, we can’t help you. So—” He gestured his two other colleagues to take them to the sidewalk.

It was then finally Kang Jia had her peace. She sighed with relief. The next thing she knew, Kim Taehyung had already pulled up in front of her. He got out to the passenger’s side and opened the door. “Let’s go. Since Mr. Kang’s too occupied, I should give you a ride. I wouldn’t want you to travel alone,” Kim Taehyung said gently.

Flashback images rushed through her mind—it was when they’d first met. Their relationship wasn’t rocky, and they were comfortable being together.

“Heh,” Kang Sang-Jun scoffed. “I appreciate your help, Mr. Kang, but I’m available. I think you’re the one who has unfinished business. For example, your side chicks.” There was no way he was taking his little sister away from him. No way.

“Jia?” Kim Taehyung whispered.

Only then did he pull Kang Jia out of her daydream, her gaze less hostile. She lifted the corner of her lips, speaking apologetically, “I’m sorry. There’s something I have to attend to with Mr. Kang. We’ll be leaving.” She yanked Kang Sang-Jun and went the opposite way.

Kim Taehyung was about to grab her when the phone in his pocket buzzed. He stopped.

“Sir, we got it. The hitman is Bon Hwa. He’s involved with one of our subsidiary company’s legal cases. He’s got an ex-wife, which he’s still in contact with now and then. For now…”

The other person on the phone gave a summary of all the significant clues regarding their investigation. Kim Taehyung’s eyes went dark, his hand that was hanging loose on his side clenching tight. Watching the two walk into the distance, he no longer wanted to go after them. He hopped onto the driver’s seat and started the engine.

“Okay. We’ll talk once I get there. I want to know his current location and get some men ready,” ordered Kim Taehyung. He hung up the phone, speeding his car to his office.
