"After the first night of the tourney, we have 5 of the freshmen still in play," Enzelwood said, rubbing at his scruff as the other teachers discussed the results afterwards. He was surprised but albeit impressed by some of his students that had made it through.

"And here I thought we would only have one," Silvia spoke reading the reports of the surviving students. Algernon Black won the most necklaces overall and the upperclassmen suffered a great loss to their numbers because of it.

"Like I've been saying all along," Brickwood added smiling as he read over Lucy's report, "this is a most extraordinary class."

"Perhaps it's the effect of such a noteworthy influence that has brought out a higher caliber in these students," Enzelwood said reading over Freya and Jasper's reports with a skeptical eye.

"Undoubtedly." Brickwood agreed. "As professors, we can only teach, but they can only excel when they find the motivation to be better than those around them."

"To an extent, competition can be education," Punditwood interjected, "But not when it leads to grudges."

"People underestimate the power of a good grudge," Enzelwood said, pouring himself a glass of nectar, "It can be quite powerful against an enemy."

"And even more dangerous when facing a friend," Brickwood murmured, diligently reading over any and all reports.

Silvia regarded Brickwood quietly. So far, he was her favorite student to have fostered. She looked down at the report of Algernon Black again. But with all they had planned that would soon be changing.
