CHAPTER TEN
' THAT'S BIGGER
   THAN MY EGO. '

The Blade stood to the side in the Quinjet with her helmet planted on her face. She watched the scenery morph into the busy floods of the city. The dark jacket covered her body, the pale strips of white weaving around the buttons smoothly. She pulled the turtleneck of her catsuit away from her throat as she rolled her shoulders. Her sword, paired with another, crossed over her back.

'Stark, we're heading northeast.' Romanoff's voice broke her trance as she turned, moving to the front of the jet, behind Barton and Romanoff.

'What? Did you stop for drive-thru?' Stark's voice replied as she leant against the seat.

Drive-thru?

Oh, that sounds good.

What would you opt for?

McDonald's?

'That's not too bad of an idea if I'm honest.' The Blade pursed her lips as Romanoff rolled her eyes. 'What? I've had a long day, Princess, alright?' She patted her stomach. 'I'm fucking famished.'

Stark's laughter filled her earpiece, and a smirk formed on her face. 'Swing up, park. I'm gonna lay 'em out for you.'

'Blade?' Romanoff glanced over her shoulder.

Blood?

Shoot 'em down!

'Fresh, smokin' Chitauri comin' up, Widow,' she replied, slipping into the compartment holding the controls for the gun attached to the ship. She placed her eye near the scope and let out a breath before letting the bullets release at the flying creatures. The ship swooped up, and the Blade caught a glimpse at Loki and Thor. 'Oh, look, daddy's home.'

She aimed the gun, and bullets rebounded from his helmet. Loki lifted his sceptre, pointing it directly at the ship and letting the explosion erupt at it.

Blood!

Blood!

'Fuck!' she exclaimed, diving out of the compartment that readily blasted into flames.

Barton pulled the controls up as the ship collided into a building, the burning wing crushing under the friction and falling to the floor. The aircraft began to descend into a spin until it dropped clumsily into the street.

The Blade slid across the floor of the jet, stopping just short of the seats as she sighed, resting against them. 'Another happy landing.'

She leapt to her feet, grasping onto a handle on the ceiling and pulling her sword from her back. She carved an exit and let out a sigh before throwing her weapon through the hole. Wrapping her other hand around the handle, she lifted her feet to kick through the rest. The piece of ceiling burst from its confinements and flew across the street. She shifted before pulling herself awkwardly through the hole.

Her eyes flickered around New York, Chitauri running riot as their guns exploded glass and their screams pierced the sky. She glanced down at Romanoff before she replaced her sword in its sheath. She aided the redhead up through the hole. They both moved to the only wing intact and slid down it as Barton and Rogers followed.

They whipped around as a colossal noise punctured the air, and the Blade's eyes widened. A massive creature swept out of the portal, which plagued the blue sky. Its jaws alone were massive and overwhelming as it let out another eruptive roar.

That's really big.

This is my bad feeling incarnated.

Like you knew this thing was gonna be here.
