''idaliah, get up''

''mhmm I mumbled''

''supper's on the table, come eat''

''okay'' I said still no intention of getting up

''and come dressed''

''why?'' I asked suddenly alert

''were going out for a drive?''

I groaned inwardly and pressed my head into the cushion

''would you like to stay?'' mom surprised me by asking''

''yes please, if that's okay'' I begged sweetly

''okay, be safe''

''the safest I'll ever be''

And she left

The house was quiet for a moment and despite my body being tired I got up anyway, I was alone, and I hadn't planned on doing anything bad, and what could I do anyway? But the fact that mom was gone it felt as if I had to do something different to what I wouldn't do if they were present

I wadded into the kitchen wearing nothing but a vest and panties, I looked into the microwave, meatloaf and veggies, I decided not, I went to the freezer and glanced at all the treats that were in there due to the road trip

I pulled out, strawberries, juice, and a chocolate bar from the cupboard; I found leftover pasta too, that I wolfed down

I spotted a radio; and put it on; static

Boy was I glad Hubert hadn't found this and Jesus-ified it too, I found a station that wasn't as bad as the rest and I danced around the kitchen to songs I had never heard before

_______________

Another thing I loved about this place it was safe, well at least safe according to mom, you could leave your doors unlocked at night, the town was pretty welcoming and ocean hues population were mostly elderly who had grown up here, it's like a small magical town that no one really left, I'd been here 5 years ago last and the same people ran the same book store, the same corner shops and the same book stands at the flea market every Friday

Sure I remembered them as if no time had passed, but they didn't so much as remember me

We went to the pools, which was basically a waterpark called the pools, because there was more so pools, splash pools heated pools than slides than a waterpark

I put on my speedo and shorts, Frank had his shorts on from the moment he left the house, I had had mine under my clothes, the anxiety in getting dressed in public places, there was this unwritten thing amongst girls where it was totally normal to undress in front of girls, I think it was the same for boys, but most of the boys I knew didn't parade naked in the boys dressing areas

They'd put a towel around their waist and pull their briefs up from under

I slipped in one of the bigger pools, walking around, watching the spurts of water coming from the corners, as a kid I'd love sit against it and let the bubbles touch my back, like an underwater massage

I slowly made my way to one of those things; I saw mom and Hubert, sitting far away from me

A group of high school kids, came in I heard because they were loud as opposed to everyone else in the room

But they didn't care; I smiled because it felt familiar

The first boy came running towards the pool, practically jumping over me

The others cheered, I figured the next person was about to jump, a tall strawberry blonde haired girl, but the person behind the front desk yelled ''hey, hey''
