I was sent to the headmaster's office for not doing my homework

Okay maybe I'm omitting certain details

I was sent to the headmaster's office for not doing my homework, then when Mrs Gerry asked me to hand it in; I realized after the relentless rummaging through my bag that I had forgotten it on my dresser that morning

Mrs Gerry took this for an excuse and I was reprimanded for being lazy, as well as not seeing my laziness as a disease the second I had made an excuse about not completing the homework

Note to self: never forget your homework again

so I had gotten off with two warning letters, the third warning letter would mean I get suspension for a week, 5 warning letters meant expulsion, - so generally I tried to stay far away from that

Warning letters sound so harsh, it was. But for comparison purposes; the other alternative was detention, and because the school was so strict and everyone knew this, kids were smart when they did naughty things they usually made sure they wouldn't get busted for it by having a full proof plan

Also because no one got detention, when someone did get detention, it meant a teacher would have to stay behind to look after the detention class. And this wasn't good for two reasons:

One: a teacher that had to stay past his/her work time was the most fouled mood teacher to exist

Two: it was embarrassing because the designated space where detention took place was in the freshman class. so if you were anyone but a freshman going in there they'd know you were going for detention, and one thing rich people liked more than competing in the ; who is the richest game, was; gossiping about others

When I got there and had to explain what I had done that had landed me in the headmasters office, the principal looked at me, but not a word had left my mouth

I figured he knew why I was there; the teacher brought me there, so why did I have to explain?

''Do you think it's funny?'' he began

Silence clearly was the wrong move

''No sir'' I responded back straight as a rod

''I want this signed by your parents and brought back to me first thing tomorrow morning'' he said handing me the warning letters

''Yes sir'' I said and I could feel the tears threateningly close, my voice wobbled

I was no rebel at school, and here I was getting warning letters, not just one but two, that was one more warning letter away from suspension, and three more away from expulsion.

Tully came to find me after school, I was going to wait for her to ask me what happened in the office, but her nonchalant façade made me think she wouldn't ask

''I got two warning letters'' I blurted, this time a tear did slip

''That blows, I'm sorry'' she answered pouting, and giving me a little squeeze in attempt to console me

I wiped my tear before anyone could see and ask me what's wrong, and then I'd have to tell them, and then they'd gossip about it anyway

''Are you going to give it to your parents to sign?" she asked

Her question caused me such surprise; I forgot why I was stressed out and sad in the first place

''As opposed to what? not giving it to them?'' I asked

''Yeah, why not, I mean what's the worst that could happen?'' Tully said, looking at my face and the disbelief written all over it

''Okay you know what, forget it'' she asserted, knowing full well it wasn't in me to go through with it
